After the death of Superman in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," Batman and Wonder Woman travel the world to unite the biggest superhero team in history. "Justice League," directed by Zack Snyder, is an upcoming superhero film based on the popular team. As the fifth installment of the DC Extended Universe, the film stars Ben Affleck ("Gone Girl"), Henry Cavill ("The Man from U.N.C.L.E."), Gal Gadot ("Fast & Furious"), Ezra Miller ("Trainwreck"), Jason Mamoa ("Game of Thrones") and theatre actor Ray Fisher ("Macbeth") respectively as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Clark Kent/Superman, Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Barry Allen/The Flash, Arthur Curry/Aquaman and Victor Stone/Cyborg. Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, and Jeremy Irons will be reprising their roles from "Dawn of Justice" along with newcomers Amber Heard ("Magic Mike XXL"), Kristofer Hivju ("Game of Thrones") and "Spider-Man" trilogy's J.K. Simmons and Willem Dafoe. With the villain of the film confirmed as Steppenwolf, uncle of Darkseid, Warner Bros. has decided to release the official synopsis of the film.
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Right now, it is unknown what Steppenwolf's goal is on Earth, but one can easily assume it has to do with the three Mother Boxes. The Mother Boxes are each held by the Amazons, the Atlanteans and Star Labs Director Silas Stone. A Mother Box was featured in Victor Stone's cameo scene "Batman v Superman," where the box dissolved and bonded with Victor Stone, giving him the physical appearance that led him to become Cyborg. Given Steppenwolf's motive, expect him to do everything he can to end Victor Stone/Cyborg.

Previously reported to be split into two films, Deborah Snyder recently confirms that 2017's "Justice League" will be a completely different film than "Justice League 2" that'll release in 2019. Details about Superman's role in the film are kept secret by director Zack Snyder as fans watched him die in battle with "Doomsday in Dawn of Justice." Snyder goes on record and says, "I guess that's part of the story. If he does appear, I think that that would be a big part of the story, right?" Snyder also said that "there's a process, clearly, that would have to go on" in order to explain his resurrection. In August 2015, Henry Cavill went on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" to promote "The Man from U.N.C.L.E" as well as, surprisingly, confirm his involvement in the "Justice League" film.
If that isn't enough for you, in April 2016, Cavill posted a photo of himself on Instagram pulling a rope attached to something very heavy in preparation for the film, as well as the caption:
"1st week of training done. 7 days, 9 workouts and a whole lot of food!" #Superman #JusticeLeague #SupermanTraining"
Now that you've heard it twice from Cavill himself, expect to see Superman resurrected in some form next year to fight for the fate of the planet.
Aside from the resurrection of Superman, fans have been worried about the tone of the upcoming film. With the tone of DC Extended Universe being dark, Snyder hints that "Justice League" will be lighter in tone. He also said that the film will stand out as unique in contrast to both "Batman v Superman" and "Man of Steel."
"I think I'm obsessed with the tone in the movies. Tone has always been the main thing that I go after with a movie, and I really wanted the tone of the three movies to be different chapters and not be the same note that you strike like, 'Okay, there's this again.' I really wanted that, and I do believe that since 'Batman v Superman' came out and we've wrapped our heads around what 'Justice League' would be, I do think that the tone has, because of what fans have said and how the movie was received by some, is that we have kind of put the screws to what we thought the tone would be and crushed it that little bit further." - Zack Snyder
Filming for "Justice League" is currently underway in London for its theatrical release on November 17, 2017.
