As school is coming just around the corner, we start to reminisce on things that only home can offer. With everyone coming from different cities, everyone misses different things and some of those things may not make sense. Only people from Philly will understand these 10 things that will be missed when we return to school:
1. Cheesesteak
Absolutely no one has had a real cheesesteak unless they have had one from Philly. Even then, there's more argument about where you got it from and which place is ultimately the best. No cheesesteak will ever compare unless it is a Philly cheesesteak.
2. Crab Fries
This small bar called Chickes and Pete's created the best thing that's ever happened to me. Curly fries with old bay seasoning and melted American cheese on the side. It is a dreamy heaven that I can only wish was available to me during the school year to comfort me at my worst times.
3. Center City
It is our city after all, and it is amazingly beautiful. Between all the history it holds and the people who live there, Philly is a fantastic city. Walking down John F. Kennedy Blvd and seeing the magnificent city hall is like no other view. It has so much to offer and so many views on display.
4. Driving past the stadiums
Whether you're heading to Delaware, the shore, or the airport, nothing beats driving by the Philly stadiums. There is just something about seeing them in all their grace and beauty and feeling like you are truly home.
5. Driving on I-95
Although traffic can be the absolute worst, you'll probably end up missing being stuck on I-95 and being able to jam out to your music while passing the beautiful city we call home. State College traffic is nothing compared to what Philly has to offer.
6. Not being told you have an accent
The amount of times I get crap from my friends for saying "wudder" and "yous" is absurd. You'll miss everyone talking and pronouncing the same as you.
7. 6ABC Action News
No one else will be able to appreciate Jim Garner or Cecily Tynan like a Philly person does. They're probably the best newscasters and not being able to see them at school hits different. The news just isn't the same.
8. Being at sporting events.
School may have an infinite amount of sports teams, but have you ever been to a sporting event in Philly? I don't think a Penn State football game could even compare to that!
9. Wawa.
New Jersey may have this too, but we are quite literally the only two states that can experience such wonderful hoagies and convenient store food. Wawa will always be superior.
10. The shore.
Last but not least, every Philly kid will miss being at shore. No, not the beach, the shore--the jersey shore! It is the best vacation spot we have at our hands and we love every bit of it. No one will understand the connection we have with it and how relatable "Jersey Shore" actually was.
