When I finished my semester at school, I spent a few days resting, watching TV, and reflecting on my year. Being unproductive may have felt relaxing, but it didn't make me satisfied. Due to the fact that I didn't get much done, I decided to find some ways that I can help other people out.
I decided to ask my track club if I can help out. They were ok that I came to help with taping every runner during their workout. They found it helpful because the athletes were able to get an idea of how they looked like when they ran and what they could do to fix their form. In fact, I'm having a fun time doing that, even though it isn't paid.
I also volunteered at a track and field clinic, with kids who ages 9-13 in running, throwing, and jumping events. They were great listeners and they were very motivated. It wasn't paid either, but what matters more is that I had fun. I helped with the running events, and taught them ways to run and stretch properly so they can keep getting better and staying injury free. Even though some volunteering can be exhausting, the kids who I worked with gave me energy, since they normally have energy at that age.
In my spare time, I usually workout at Planet Fitness, spend time with friends, or study. At Planet Fitness, I do the bike and Arc Trainer, since my running injury is keeping me from running. I also use many different weights and do body weight exercises as well. I have also used my time with some of my friends. I find that vacation doesn't have to be "me time." I think that too much "me time" can be boring and unhealthy. The other thing I mentioned was that I study. I have found it to be helpful to review my notes, so that way I won't need to pull all-nighters. I have pulled a few all-nighters in my freshman year at Adelphi, but it didn't boost my test grades.
Later this summer, I will most likely work for a rehab center. I find this to be helpful, because there could be many different ways that got the patients in the center. Some examples could be addiction, withdrawal, poisoning, and elderly people who can't live in their home. It would be nice to make a positive impact to the people who are doing rehab therapy.
Most importantly, I find that the Odyssey has given me something to do. I feel like I can write anything I want, as long as it's appropriate, and I am given a publish date every week. I also like that I'm doing something with writing, because most of what I do relates to math and science, and writing is a useful skill to have in terms of communicating and sharing ideas.
