Just Because I Am...

Do not assume something about me just because...

Just Because I Am...
KKG Mizzou Breaking Sorority Stereotypes

With day and age we live in today, there is a lot of prejudice towards anyone who breathes basically. But, with that, there is a lot of things to be learned about individuals and his or her backgrounds that got them to the point they are at. So... just because...

1. Just because I get what I want does not mean I am spoiled.

I have always been told “you pave the path you wish to make for your future.” And ever since I have been taught that, I have lived and learned by it. I work incredibly hard for my future now and will continue to work incredibly hard to earn the future I deserve. I do not believe that things are just handed to me or handed to those who have a higher success because there was a lot of hard work put into gaining the benefits we receive.

2. Just because I portray Greek letters does not mean I go to college just to party.

When signing up for recruitment as a college freshman, the Greek community seemed to be a social club and just that. However, once I became a fairly active member, I realized that it is so much more. I am held up to reach certain requirements as a student and an individual to not only better myself but better those around me. My letters do not make me better than you and your letters do not make you better than me. My letters do make me become a better individual for myself.

3. Just because I am a Christian does not mean I am judging you and your life decisions.

Judgment upon you is not my position nor will it ever be. I believe that everyone sins and so with that, I am no greater than you and you are no greater than me. I believe that because of our sins, we are all given an infinite amount of chances to become a better individual in the likelihood of God. However, I am not going to force you into changing into believing in my beliefs because your beliefs are important and make you the person you are and I have learned to accept everyone and their differences. While I will not force becoming a more God-like individual, I will pray that you stay unharmed, live a peaceful life and become a better individual than you already are.

4. Just because my political views sway one way more than another does not mean I completely disagree with every single one of your beliefs.

My political beliefs are mine and your political beliefs are yours. Everyone has been raised throughout different families who taught different lessons and have experience different events that lead them to their current beliefs on any topic. I am going to respect what you believe in and who you support and if we support and believe the same political party, hooray! If not, I am not looking at you in a lesser value than I did before nor will I try to convince you that my party/candidate is better than yours.

5. Just because I am me does not mean I do not want you to stop being you.

As Dr. Seuss says, “Today you are you; that is truer than true. Today no one will ever be you-er than you.” Individuality is the greatest thing in this world. I do not have to be identical to you and you do not have to be identical to me. Learning how to accept differences amongst each other is the greatest lesson to learn and spread. You and I are beautiful for our own reasons and people enjoy us for who we are as individuals. Why change that?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
