Being a college student can be a tough thing. There is so much pressure to do well in school, make friends, and participate in your community. One thing that should never be a stress is where and when you eat. A lot of students on college campuses don’t have an easy way of transportation to their favorite food places, or grocery stores, and there is an easy new platform that makes this problem irrelevant.

JoyRun is the perfect answer to all of the stresses surrounding your food world.

If you haven’t heard of JoyRun yet, let me fill you in. I went on JoyRun’s website to see what their mission statement was, and this is what I found. “JoyRun is a peer-to-peer platform that makes group deliveries for the community, by the community, social, affordable and rewarding. JoyRun’s feed lets you see who wants what in your area, create or spontaneously join existing requests, and then connects the groups with community members willing to do JoyRuns. And when you do a JoyRun, you get paid a few dollars and build your social cred. For local businesses, JoyRun wakes up latent demand, builds brand preference and grows top line revenue. Started in 2015, JoyRun is based in Silicon Valley. Today, college campuses nationwide. Tomorrow, offices and neighborhoods around the world”.

JoyRun is also funded by the same investors as Airbnb and Lyft. Basically, JoyRun allows you to make money as a “runner” by delivering food to your fellow college students, as well as having food delivered to you anywhere at anytime by your fellow college students.

You might wonder what makes JoyRun different than the competition. JoyRun is a really big step up from Uber eats or other delivery services because they are more of a social platform, rather than just a delivery service. I enjoy going on the app and seeing who is delivering my food, whether it be a friend of mine from school or a fellow classmate I have yet to make friends with.

It is a really awesome way to socialize with your community while making money and enjoying your favorite food. A lot of people shy away from using Uber Eats or Postmates because they aren’t comfortable having food delivered to them by some random stranger. JoyRun eliminates the worry because the person delivering to you goes to your school! You can check the runner out on Twitter or Facebook if you have any worries.

And since we’re all broke college students, the delivery fee is lower than anyone else’s out there. It really is the perfect storm for a college kid to use.

Now let’s get into the specifics of what you can get through the app. JoyRun allows you to request food from places that would usually never deliver. Some of the many places include McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Wendy’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Chipotle.

JoyRun also does something that’s so unique, it stands out from the competition. Walmart, Target, or your local grocery store can also be delivered on JoyRun. I got sick last semester and needed cough medicine from the store. All I did was start up the JoyRun app, request a run to Walmart and I had my medicine in forty minutes! It was absolutely incredible and something that I wish every college student had the chance of using.

If you are a student on campus who doesn’t have a car, there is still a simple way to make money from JoyRun. To put it simply, just refer the app to your friends who have yet to hear about JoyRun. Go to the app, and under the “Free Food” tab, click and apply to be a Brand Champion. By doing this, every three people you refer, you make fifteen dollars! Imagine if you are in a sorority or fraternity that has never heard of JoyRun. Have them all download the app and put in your personal code and you can walk away with hundreds of dollars! It’s a really easy way to make money and socialize at school.

JoyRun has only been out for a few years and it’s exponentially growing. JoyRun is already spreading its reach coast to coast from California to North Carolina! If anyone is interested in learning more about JoyRun, just head to the app store and download the app! Any additional questions can be answered on the JoyRun website at JoyRun.com.

If you happen to be reading this and you’re from the Illinois State campus, use promo code JOSHBA518 for five dollars off your first purchase. Go download it, and I promise you won’t regret it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
