If you're someone like me, then you like to keep up with your award shows. Especially if Shawn Mendes is scheduled to perform (sorry, besides the point). The Grammys are especially an important show because of, frankly, how damn prestigious the event is considered. If someone wins a Grammy, then they're pretty much set for life, their name no longer being uttered without the phrase "Grammy award winning artist" preceding it.
The Grammys red carpet, of course, is equally as important as the award show. Stars arrive in their most fashionable outfits (although most are just borderline outrageous). God forbid you end up on the worst dressed list, though.
The person who I thought dressed the worst and actually deserved to be kicked out of the show itself is a singer by the name of Joy Villa. Name ring a bell? Of course not, because she is probably one of the most irrelevant people on Earth. I'll give you a quick summary: Joy Villa is an American woman (with African roots) who happens to be one of President Trump's most avid supporters.
She started her charade in 2017, the year Trump was inaugurated, wearing a navy blue gown with the words "Make America Great Again" printed across the length of it, in large, glittery, and tacky letters.
In addition to the fact that she is a woman, she is also a woman of COLOR. I personally cannot fathom the fact that she is most definitely aware of our struggles as WOC and yet she continues to zealously support one of the most racist and misogynistic presidents we have had to date.
Her dresses are not only ugly but also incredibly disturbing. Her dress at the most recent Grammys took the cake, with the words "Build The Wall" printed in piercing red letters, a brick pattern surrounding, obviously alluding to the Mexican-American border wall proposed by Trump. As if this weren't enough, she wore a barbed wire around her neck and spikes in her hair, in addition to once again rocking a tacky MAGA clutch.
I understand that we live in a democracy and people are allowed to have their own political beliefs, and sure, Joy Villa is legally allowed to support whoever the hell she wants. But to bring your oppressing and overwhelming ideas to a place where people just want to enjoy and feel safe honestly just indicates a complete lack of humanity. I am not an immigrant myself, but being around an individual dressed like that would most definitely make me uncomfortable.
This issue probably becomes messy when you factor in Article 11 of the Bill of Rights which protects our freedom of expression. A very plausible solution, however, is to just take her invitation away. If she is snatched off the platform that she so desperately clings onto for the promotion of trash political beliefs, then she wouldn't have an audience anymore.
