Welp, almost two weeks have gone by since the heartbreaking season five finale of "Game of Thrones," which ended with the death of everyone’s favorite bastard, Jon Snow. However, the question is: Is Jon Snow really dead?
"Game of Thrones" is a show that’s known for pushing boundaries and committing the unseemly. From the beginning, they have shown no fear when it comes to killing off important characters, starting all the way back in season one. Who could forget when Ned Stark, a main protagonist, was beheaded?
So, when the end of season five rolled around fans expected a riveting finale, but boy did the show deliver. The last few minutes completely knocked viewer’s socks off when our heroic heartthrob, Jon Snow, was killed by his own brothers of the Night's Watch. He died an honorable death just like his father, having done what he thought was right for the North. No surprise there. But, what really surprised everyone is that Ollie, the young boy who looked up to Jon, was the one to deliver the final blow.
Killing off Jon Snow was NOT a popular opinion, and fans everywhere are still mourning Westeros Favorite Bastard in their own ways (my favorite was this street memorial found in Williamsburg).
But, moving on, time has passed and the conspiracy theories are thickening. Is Jon Snow really a goner? At this point the books and the show are not totally reliant on one another, as the show has taken its own spin on events. In the books it is left ambiguous as to whether Jon Snow was truly killed or not. However, during the season finale he looked pretty dead to me?
A report from Vanity Fair states that Kit Harrington will be not be attending this year’s San Diego Comic Con Panel. Why is this strange? Well, in the past recently killed off characters still participate in the panel. But, hold on, it gets even stranger. Writer George RR Martin as well as show creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff will also be absent from the panel.. say what?
That takes away all of the prominent decision makers capable of answering important questions about Jon Snow. Was this a deliberate move to avoid talk of Jon Snow? Or simply a terrible scheduling mishap?
It should also be noted that Kit Harrington HAS NOT CUT HIS HAIR. This is very important to note because his HBO contract forbids him from getting a haircut in order to keep his luscious locks at a certain length. This has begun the conspiracy theory of many: if he's really off the show why hasn't he gotten a haircut yet? Does he just enjoy the feeling of his hair in the wind? Or does he not have a choice? Some dedicated fans have even started a petition for Kit to get a haircut, hoping to learn the truth of Jon Snow's demise.
Lately, there has even been talk that Jon wasn’t Ned’s bastard at all and instead was the child of Lyanna Stark, Ned's younger sister, and Rhaegar Targaryen. Giving him the blood of a dragon! If you remember, Sansa and Littlefinger discussed Lyanna and Rhaegar in the crypts of Winterfell.
During events that occurred before the show started, Lyanna was "abducted" by Rhaegar and kept in a Tower.Eventually Ned embarks on a rescue mission along with six other men, only he and one other make it out alive (convenient for secret keeping). However, Rheagar dies before Ned get there. At the end of the battle Lyanna is on her death bed and Ned makes a mysterious promise to her. Could that promise have been that he would care for her child as a father??
Plus, if this is true then that would make him the son of fire and ice, explaining the book series title; A Song of Fire and Ice. Therefore, it all becomes a story revolving around Jon Snow. If he truly is the main focus then his return would have to be inevitable. Although Kit Harrington said he wasn’t coming back for the next season, we’re still left to speculate about season seven.
I am totally rooting for a Jon Snow comeback. I mean come on, we're just getting into the thick of White Walker action we need Jon Snow! However, I think we will all be happy with any outcome as long as Daenerys continues to ride her dragons around and hopefully make her way to Kings Landing ASAP.
So, what do you think,is Jon Snow coming back?
