Reviewing John Mayer's The Search For Everything: Wave One
Sony Music

Last we heard from him, John Mayer had joined the "Dead & Company" crew and was having the time of his life. This week, we got a taste of everything we know and love about John Mayer with his newest release "The Search For Everything" and it is everything we have hoped for. Nostalgic is an understatement with this release. Each song brings us back to another one of our favorite Mayer. Four great songs and the best part, it is only the start! Check out my review of each song, one by one!

1. Moving on and Getting Over

This song is one of those tasty jams from "Battle Studies" It's got one of the nicest grooves with Steve Jordan laying it down yet again. It's a great tune that shows where Mayer has gotten to in his musical explorations. Pino Palladino lays it down on the bass, making this the pocket tune of record.

2. Changing

The ballad of the EP, it really brings a great texture to it all. It shows John Mayer's innate ability to write a song we will never forget. The way he writes lyrics almost automatically make you feel a personal connection with them. This song makes me think most of "Heart of Life" (Knocked Up), which I had a similar relationship with. I could definitely see this making it to the big screen for another Judd Apatow-esque series.

3. Love on the Weekend

This song was released as a single a few months ago, helping to hype up this release and an upcoming tour planned this year. Whenever I hear this song, I try and think of the John Mayer song it sounds like but I realized, it sounds like a little bit of all his prior material, all jam packed into an awesome tune. I also really liked when he coined the term "serotonin overflow" in this song. It made me thing of all the different things that could mean. I see it as a big emotional release that he has with this person and barely sees, but has that deeper connection with. Heavy stuff Johnny.

4.You're Gonna Live Forever In Me

Immediately when you hear this, the first thought is Randy Newman ("You Got A Friend In Me"). It is clear that was his biggest influence on this song and I think he does it perfectly. The opening line does it for me.

"A great big bang and dinosaurs, fiery red meteors"

I love how he can get so connected to people with emotional messages and then have a song like this that makes me think his songs are fun and make me feel like a kid again.

Like I said before, this record is only the start. With this being part one, we can expect at least two more releases, hopefully this year! This first release was amazing though and I'm happy John is using a new angle with his records. Mayer said on twitter,

"“My heart’s racing. These songs represent literally hundreds of hours of living inside of these little worlds. And more to come "

"The Search for Everything- Wave One" is such a fitting name because it has us all searching in our selves, remembering days before life got crazy and how we want to find that feeling again and again.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

You know that all of these things apply to you. You'll just never tell.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.

Being a music major is not all kicks and giggles. In fact, there are days when I question my sanity and doubt myself as a musician. I know I am not the only one going through the struggle, and so here are 13 GIFs that I know my fellow music majors can relate to...
