Dear Jonas Brothers,
You were the first boy band that I fell in love with. I learned all of your songs, watched every single one of your music videos and even owned your DVD, “Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience.”
Your appearances on Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam and your appearance on an episode of Hannah Montana blew my 11-year-old mind and I thought that was the coolest thing to ever exist.
When you released “Pom Poms” and “First Time” back in 2013, it got my hopes up into thinking you were going to return, but sadly, you didn’t.
Earlier this year, Kevin instagrammed a photo of the three of you with no caption and your official band instagram was activated, and again, my inner 11-year-old grew excited.
Twitter blew up and #JonasBrothers was trending for awhile. There were thousands of tweets from people in their twenties like me joking about how they would be the first to buy tickets and be in the front row, but lowkey, that’s not a joke.
So far, you haven’t made any new music or an official announcement about your return, but just know that all of us who loved you during our pre-teen and teen years that are in our twenties now will be there in the front row singing along to every song and reliving our youth.
I’ve had the pleasure of seeing you live a few times with my best friends before you broke up, and truthfully, those concerts were some of the best and first memories of live music that I’ve ever had.
Being a fan of the Jonas Brothers has led me to discover artists like Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus and Jesse McCartney.
It’s also lead me to discovering other boy-bands like Allstar Weekend (rip), Big Time Rush (also rip) and Hot Chelle Rae (wow...rip. Three for three).
As I grew up, so did my music taste. I discovered even more bands like We the Kings, Boys Like Girls, Sleeping with Sirens, Pierce the Veil, The Maine, AS IT IS, Waterparks, and my current favorite band...All Time Low.
When I begin to wonder where my love for all of these bands came from, I traced it all back to becoming a fan of your band nearly 10 years ago.
Your music taught me confidence, self-love, happiness, love, sadness and many other concepts before I even fully understood what any of those things meant.
I didn’t know it back then, but being a fan of a band can lead you to discover other bands as well as make new friends. Because of music, I’ve met so many kind-hearted people in line at concerts and through groups on Facebook.
We all relate to each other and have been through a lot of the same struggles while also coming from different backgrounds, but because of being a fan of said artist, we have one thing in common and have been able to build friendships from there.
So, Jonas Brothers, thank you for teaching me what love is, thank you for teaching me about friendships and thank you for giving my pre-teen, teen, and, let’s be honest here, young adult self, music to listen to whenever I’m in the mood to relive my childhood or just need a pick-me-up.
Your music will live on in my heart and my Spotify playlist forever because “Burnin’ Up” and “Hold On” are jams for any occasion, whether that be in the car with your friends, a break up or just chilling at home looking for music to listen to.
You taught me so many things, and now that I’m older, I realize how important every single one of those lessons are. They’ve helped me become the person I am today.
Your band may be broken up, but we still have your music as a reminder of what once was.
Just remember, if and when you decide to make one more album or announce that reunion tour that we all secretly want, I, along with my friends, will be there in the front row, crying because we can’t believe it’s actually happening.
I don’t mean to be cliche here, but, in the words of Fall Out Boy, thanks for the memories!
Love,
That 21 soon-to-be 22-year-old fan who will always love your music no matter how old she gets.
