As college students, we want food that is fast, good, and something we can convince ourselves is healthy (oh, this sandwich has some wilted lettuce underneath the bacon, it must be good for me!)
After all, we need to fight the freshman/sophomore/junior fifteen, which are all very real.You're sitting in class and realize you haven't eaten since 8 a.m. when you crawled out of bed five minutes before class, completely skipping breakfast (does that piece of gum count?)  Here in Iowa City, we often have to choose between two amazing sandwich places: Jimmy John's and Which Wich. Both have really great sandwiches, and I find myself craving one or the other pretty much every day. 

Let's start with the pros. Jimmy John's bread is like fresh, fluffy heaven. I know each and every one of you could eat an entire day-old loaf in one sitting (not speaking from experience…) The bread alone is a deciding factor. Next we have the chips: barbecue, skinny, jalapeño, regular…whatever your choice may be, you can't go wrong. Next, the unwich. If you're actually trying to be healthy, you can skip the bread and have your sandwich wrapped in lettuce. I am a firm believer in bread on everything, so I was skeptical about the unwich at first. But once I tried it, I saw what all the hype was about -- it's delicious. What else did I expect from Jimmy John's?

But that's not to say Jimmy John's doesn't have its faults. They're claim to be "freaky fast" is not always the case. Several times I've had to wait over 30 minutes for my food, which kind of defeats the purpose of choosing to eat somewhere because it's quick. But this all depends on where you live and who is delivering your food that day. Who knows? Maybe my delivery guy got robbed because Jimmy John's is just that good. 

Now for the competition: Which Wich. Before coming to Iowa City, I had never even heard of the place. Boy, was I missing out. Which Wich is correct in claiming their sandwiches are superior, because they are one of the best I've had. While their bread isn't as heavenly as Jimmy John's (let's be honest, whose ever could be?), you can have your sandwich toasted, which takes it to a whole new level. Which Wich also has an array of toppings you can get on your sandwich, which is really fun if you're looking to experiment. Perhaps the best thing of all, when you order your sandwich you write down a name on the bag they'll put it in. I say a name instead of your name because half the fun of going to Which Wich is making up a crazy alias for yourself. A friend and I once put Blair and Serena from Gossip Girl, because who doesn't want to be them?

When mealtime rolls around, and you still can't decide, just do what any normal person would do: have one for lunch and one for dinner. Problem solved.
