Jesus Teaches Us To Not Judge One Another

John 8:3-12

One of the most interesting stories in the Bible is found in John 8:3-12. As Jesus was chilling on the Mount of Olives, some crazy scribes and Pharisees from a nearby town brought a woman to Him and demanded the approval to stone her. Why? Because she committed adultery; a very wicked sin indeed. But instead of immediately verbally responding, Jesus knelt down and started drawing in the dirt. Now those crazy scribes and Pharisees were getting annoyed with Jesus' silent treatment, so they kept asking and demanding answers like a bunch of little kids. Jesus finally, calmly, said, "Listen, fellas, He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first."

BOOM.

And then one by one, they left because they were butt-hurt, judgy babies.

When Jesus and the woman were the only ones left, He asked her, "Has no one condemned you?" to which she replied, "No one, Lord." Then Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more."

A couple of lessons can be drawn from this passage:

1. Quit judging and being hypocritical of someone for their flaws, but,

2. Thanks to God's great love and grace, we can have forgiveness of our shortcomings.

We, as humans, are definitely not expected to be perfect; we are expected to make mistakes from time to time. Jesus came to die a cruel death for the reasons in the sentence above. Sometimes it's hard not to single out and address sin in a person other than ourselves because everyone is better than everyone, right? Well, the scribes and Pharisees sure thought so. But Jesus put them in their place AND forgave the woman. AND THEN, later in the chapter, the scribes and Pharisees began to throw rocks at Jesus.

Think about if some or all of the overly dramatic scribes and Pharisees had realized they had done the woman and Jesus wrong but decided to ask for forgiveness from Jesus. He would have accepted and forgiven them, and they could begin living the greatest life one possibly could: the Christian life.

Jesus gives the replication of true love. No matter what trials you're facing or whatever sinful thing you've done, God is always willing and ready to pour His great love on you, if only you give your life to Him. I promise you, you won't regret it.

"I (Jesus) am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." (John 8:12)

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
