Jesus Is A Man, Not A Curse Word

Let's stop taking the Christian Lord's name in vain.

Jesus Is A Man, Not A Curse Word
Good Friday 2014

Bad language has never been attractive to me, but I've gotten over the fact that people will use it anyway. There is one "curse word" in particular however, that shouldn't be used. The name Jesus. I find it offensive as a Christian to hear the name of my Lord used in such a derogatory way. And if you're not a Christian, especially if you don't believe in God or Jesus, why are you saying His name? If you believe He never existed, why mention Him every time something bad happens? I don't think people even realize what they're saying anymore.

Why Do People Say "Jesus" Anyway?

Other than in the literal sense by talking about Him, Jesus' name is commonly used after something bad happens. It is almost as if people are blaming Him for the turmoil in their life (which doesn't make sense, if you don't believe in Him). It does make sense if you use it because you hate Him. For example, you stub your toe. "Jesus!" You see a car get into an accident. "Jesus Christ!" Someone is annoying you. "Jesus, will you just shut up?" Ick. Even writing that makes me cringe.

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is the Christian messiah. Someone who came to earth as God in human form, performed miracles, died on the Cross for everyone's sins and rose again three days later. He is the most important part of life to Christians. The Bible states that Jesus's name has great power. Countless times in the Bible are mentions of using Jesus's name to, for instance, ward of demonic spirits, heal or ask God for things. Christians do not/should not take His holy name lightly, and if you don't believe, there's definitely no need to use His name like that.

Why Should You Stop Cursing Jesus' Name?

I'm not saying this should be a new federal law, but please, if you can, try to get out of the habit just to be respectful. Jesus may not be important to you, but He is super important to others. I cringe every time I hear His name taken in vain. I'm sure any other religion would take it offensively if you took their deity's name in vain as well. Yelling "Buddha!" or "Muhammad!" would be sure to stir up some political fire. Out of respect for all religions and beliefs, please do not mock something important to them. Disagreement is fine, mocking is not.

Thank you, anyone who read this and realized they were in the wrong. If you set out to make a change, thank you. We need more people in life who consider other's feelings! It might take a while to break the habit, but I believe it is worth it. It means so much. Thank you.

"You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain." -Exodus 20:7

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
