I love Jennifer Lawrence. I've loved her since Winter's Bone and I'll love her until the day she says goodbye to the silver screen (which I hope is never, to be honest). I love her bluntness, her honesty, her gives-no-effs attitude, and her raw talent on screen. She's brilliant, both as an actor and a human being. So, its needless to say that her absence for the last year or so has been hard for me. She didn't do much press at all for Passengers and, after the film's bummer of a release, she hasn't done much else.
But, thankfully-praise-the-lord-amighty-God-yes, she's back.
Her next film, Mother!, written and directed by Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream)looks like a whirlwind of terror, psychological tricks, and mystery. The film also looks like it is going to be unlike anything J-Law has done before. In the most recent trailer (below), her character (which no one knows the name of, based on IMDb) wears an innocent, but terrifying, look on her face. She seems almost infantile and a bit crazy, for lack of a better word, and her performance is already impressing me. Basically, I cannot wait for September 15th. Like most people right now, I have no idea what this movie is about, but I will be first in line to purchase a ticket. Count on it.
In addition to Mother!, Jennifer has several movies coming out in the coming year. Red Sparrow, which I am personally pumped for, tells the story of a Russian intelligence officer assigned to seduce a first-tour CIA agent who handles the CIA's most sensitive penetration of Russian intelligence. Jen plays the Russian and I'm beyond excited to hear a Russian accent come out of her Kentucky-raised mouth.
And of course, we have the next X-Men film to look forward to, but I'm honestly more excited about the possibility that J-Law will be teaming up with Quentin Tarantino on his untitled Manson Family project. It's rumored that she will either be playing actress Sharon Tate or the role of Manson Family-member Susan Atkins. Either way, a collaboration between Tarantino and Lawrence will be unbelievable. Tarantino has had J-Law on the brain since he was casting for The Hateful Eight, in which he had her in mind for Daisy Domergue. In interviews for the film, he described Daisy as "a Manson girl out West, like Susan Atkins or something," which lends to the idea that he's had Lawrence pegged for a role like this for quite a while.
Regardless, I'm just (overly) excited for Jen's return to the screen, especially since we'll be getting back-to-back-to-back-to-back releases of her work. It seems like she's got a lot of heavy, dark, gritty stuff coming our way and if you know me, you know that's my favorite kind. So I'm just over the moon.
Accurate depiction of me, preparing for how bomb her lineup of new films is going to be:
