This last week, Covergirl announced its first ever male spokesperson. Katy Perry, one of the current Covergirls, announced on her Instagram that James Charles is the newest CoverBOY.

James Charles has become famous on Instagram for his amazing makeup looks. He currently has over 673 thousand followers. Most recently, his picture of him reapplying his highlighter before retaking his senior pictures has been circling the internet. He's gotten thousands of comments on Twitter, Instagram and his recently made YouTube.

James already has his foot in the door with brand deals. He currently is a brand ambassador for Benefit, another popular makeup brand.

Covergirl says that he is going to be heavily involved with the release of their newest mascara. It's not hard to see why Covergirl chose James. His makeup artist skill are amazing, especially for someone who just started applying makeup less than a year ago. However, thousands of people are not happy with Covergirl's choice. They're mad because James identifies as a male, and they believe that Covergirl should stick to female representatives. Many have even said they are going to stop buying Covergirl makeup just because of it.

For me, I'm exactly the opposite. I've been following James for quite a while and since the beginning, I've been so impressed with what he can do. I certainly will never be able to do that. As for supporting Covergirl, I'm not going to buy any other drugstore brand. Just by this, they've shown that everyone is equal, and that no matter someone's gender, everyone can wear makeup. Makeup is art, and art shouldn't be limited to a specific gender.
