This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for a lot of things. My family, my friends, my education and my dining plan, which allows me to by Taco Bell on a weekly basis. Above all, however, I’m thankful for one man: Tom Hanks.
If there is anyone on this Earth that can save mankind, Tom Hanks can do it. Not only has he starred in some of the best movies of all time, from “Forrest Gump” to “Saving Private Ryan,” but he is also one of the most trustworthy names in Hollywood. Especially now, when allegations are coming out about the rampant sexual abuse in the industry, I know that good ol’ Tom will be here to reconcile everything once the trash is taken out.
How could someone who starred in a Carly Rae Jepsen music video turn on us? He even appeared on the finale of “Last Week Tonight” with John Oliver to make us all laugh in this trying time, speaking to mannequins in a parody of a political drama.
Hanks’s portrayal of David S. Pumpkins on “Saturday Night Live” will go down in history as one of the funniest skits of this season, if not all time. With the amount of times I’ve viewed that video, I could have studied for my math test and gotten an A, but I dedicate my time to more important things.
When a man approached Mr. Hanks at a book festival and asked him to help with his proposal, Tom just smiled and agreed. What a kind and caring gentleman. The couple is now happily engaged, and Tom has one more good deed under his belt.
Overall, he just has a trustworthy face. I grew up with Tom Hanks. He’s like my second dad, one that never yells at me or tells me to stop spending his money. Tom encourages me to spend money on his new movies, and believe me, I do.
So, when you go around the kids’ table and say what you’re thankful for because your parents won’t let you sit at the adult table, even though you’ve been a legal adult for almost a year, just keep Tom Hanks in the back of your mind. Sure, maybe he hasn’t helped you directly, but I can guarantee you, someday he will.
