When you’re in college, a magical bubble starts to form around your life that is on campus. We become so focused on school and extra curriculars, that we tend to forget the adventure that exists right outside our bubble.

This weekend, I took a getaway trip with a friend to Charleston, SC. I had been numerous times, but the beauty and energy of the city continues to amaze me. It was my friends first time not only going to Charleston but to South Carolina in general. I enjoyed getting to see her excitement. I had gone down to Charleston, SC to celebrate my friend's birthday who lives there. My amazing travel companion and friend had graciously offered to come with me, so I didn’t have to do the drive alone.

From Wake Forest University, it is about a four and a half hour drive. It might seem like a long drive for just the weekend, but it is 100% worth it. The drive is very picturesque as well.

We got there at around 3:30 pm and decided to go to The Citadel to watch a Friday Dress Parade. At around 3:45 pm, the entire corps of cadets marches onto Summerall Field by company and runs through a timeless tradition.

After watching the parade, we walked around the campus a bit, as it is open to visitors. Then, it was off to dinner with friends. We went for traditional Southern Barbeque like any sane person would. We went to Fiery Ron’s Home Team BBQ, where I happily partook in stuffing my face with chopped brisket, collard greens, and mac n’ cheese. You can’t get more southern than that!

The next day was filled with laughter and friends while celebrating my friend’s birthday. We went for breakfast at Bagel Nation. A local bagel shop that has killer sandwiches, and of course, bagels. Then, games of corn hole were won and lost in the backyard. May I add that I was on both winning teams, even though I royally stink at the game. The laughter and joking around with each other was what made the weekend perfect.

We gathered at night to celebrate, devoured a delicious home cooked meal and played more games. We played Cards Against Humanity (a classic) and enjoyed good company. I look back on my weekend and smile because I had a wonderful time.

Getting away from my little bubble for a time, but also sharing it with a friend from Wake was everything I could have asked for. I feel an appreciation for the hustle and bustle of the week-to-week grind. Most of all, I appreciate my friends, who have become family and help remind me that sometimes I just need to enjoy life.

Whether you are lucky enough to remember to enjoy life on your own, or are like me and just thankful for the people who remind you, I highly recommend trying to be adventurous every once in a while. Find a place you want to go, and just do it. If you don’t have any ideas, then try heading to Charleston, SC for some delicious food, historical architecture and new memories. I promise you, you won’t regret a moment of it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
