It's The Little Things

Sometimes the smallest of things can put the biggest of smiles on our faces.

Sometimes life can get super overwhelming. You’ve got six 600 things to do and then some. But honestly when you start to think about that long to-do list, how many of those things really matter or really make you happy? Some of the things that make me happiest do so without me even noticing. Sometimes the littlest of things can completely change your mood and I think that is so cool. Here’s a list of little insignificant things that make me so happy, and that I want to learn to appreciate more.

The first flowers of spring.

Recently, I’ve been walking around and seeing so many beautiful flowers and plants coming back to life; magnificent yellow and orange tulips, pretty purple mums and entire cherry blossom trees all resurfacing. Seeing these colors and the life they bring to the city makes me smile from ear to ear.

Hearing a song you love while you’re out in public.

OK, so the other day I was at my most favorite coffee shop and I had just ordered a drink and a donut and went to sit on the back patio where the sun was shining and I was already incredibly happy, but then "Fat Old Sun" by Pink Floyd came on and it made the whole experience better than I ever could have thought! That song makes me so happy, and the fact that I was hearing it through a speaker rather than my own headphones was an incredible feeling.

A good thrift find.

Today I went to the Salvation Army with some pals to donate some clothes I don’t really wear anymore and had no intention of picking anything else up, but then we saw the coolest old lime green and royal blue bar stools.I haggled down the price and we just couldn’t leave the store without them. I’m not sure what we will do with them or how we will even get them back to our apartment, but the thought of them makes me so happy! Like we have these awesome stools that someone else loved, just imagining all the conversations had while sitting in those stools is mind boggling and makes me even happier than the stools themselves.

Knowing someone is thinking of you.

When I get a text from someone sending me a song or book or movie they think I’d like it always makes me want to cry. I love little things that show someone is thinking of you; whether they randomly text you they miss you or send you something that reminds them of you, such a simple act can make you insanely happy and that's really rad.

Finally relaxing after a super-long day of running around.

Not only is it such a happy feeling to catch a break and relax after being super busy, but it is such an accomplished/rewarding feeling! That sigh of relief when you finally plop down on the couch is indescribable, you feel like a weight has lifted off your shoulders and a subtle smile creeps onto your face.

Thinking about what makes me happy, also makes me happy. It's so cool how such little things can put a smile on your face! I love hearing little things that make people smile; if you’d like to share, I’d love to hear what makes you happy.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
