It seems every time a book to movie adaptation is made, the same lines are repeated over and over "You have to read the book before you see the movie" or "Oh my god, you didn't read the book first!" I am here to say that reading the book after seeing the movie is totally okay.
1. Reading is NEVER bad.
Whether a book is read after or before seeing the movie adaptation, at least a book is being read. It is always a good time to read, just because you saw the movie first doesn't mean that you can't read the book. Or that you should feel bad about reading the book after because reading is always acceptable.2. In all honesty, sometimes the movie is better.
A lot of people do not like to admit it, but sometimes the movie adaptation is better than the actual book it drew its inspiration from. To just name a few, Hitchcock's "Psycho", Spielberg's "Jaws", Coppola's "The Godfather", Anderson's "Fantastic Mr. Fox", I mean the list could go on and on. And you know what, it's okay to think the movie is better! Just like it is okay to read the book after seeing the movie.3. Sometimes people don't even realize movies that come from books.
We are all products of ignorance sometimes. However, there are so many famous movies adapted from books that it seems many people do not even realize that the movie comes from the book.
Some of those movies include, as pictured above, "The Princess Bride" is not only a story told from a book in the movie, but also a book itself. Along with the Tom Hanks, arguably America's sweetheart, classic "Forrest Gump", the Hannibal Lector thriller "Silence of the Lambs", and even the animated "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs."
I'm not saying everybody does not know these movies were originally books, but it seems in these particular cases the movie adaptation has far outshone the book.
So, the next time someone scoffs at you not having read the book before seeing the movie question how many books turned into movies they have read. And remind them it's okay to read the book after having seen the movie.
