During finals week, I was upset about two things: taking exams that could potentially make or break my grade in a particular class, and leaving my college friends for three whole weeks. Honestly, I almost cried hugging my roommate goodbye. All of my exams were later in the week, so I was the last of all my friends to get to go home.
After getting picked up on Thursday night (I crashed my car two nights prior; it's a long story), I realized that I was not only sad about leaving my friends, but also college as a whole; the town of Starkville, my professors, the late-night Sonic runs, and everything in between. I missed the freedom as well. Here is what you should do if you are already counting down the days until next semester:
1. Love on Your Family While You are Home
Nothing says the holidays like family, for better or for worse. Remember that they really missed you this semester and want to hear about your experiences. They want to be an avid part of your life even while you're at school. So ask if your mom needs help around the house, or take your sister to the new coffee shop down the road
2. Spend Time with Hometown Friends
Now that it's Christmas break and literally everyone is home, soak up all the time you can with your hometown friends. You already know that they all have crazy stories to share from their semester, so get ready to listen and share your own stories! Take a road trip, go to your old hangout spots, and be spontaneous with them while you can!
3. Scroll Through Your Camera Roll
Go back and watch all those dumb videos you took, the pictures from that party, and your embarrassing Snapchat memories. Remember all the moments with all your new friends.
4. Tell Them You Miss Them!
Text or call your sorority sister, roommate, boyfriend, girlfriend, or whoever else you're missing over this break, because I promise it will make their day! Better yet, if they don't live too far away, drive over and surprise them!
5. Journal
Reflect on the semester. Be honest and raw and lay it all out there, for your eyes only!
Spring semester, let's do this!
