With that first cool breeze of the autumn air, brings sooooo many things that us Louisianians have come to know and love. One of those things happens to be my favorite thing to do in Louisiana.... go to the fair.
The Louisiana State Fair is something I've always anticipated ever since I can remember. The cool nighttime breeze, the smell of the freshly popped popcorn, the fryer frying those amazing treats like fried Oreos, fried Snickers bars, fried Coke: you name it they fry it. The sound of the screams from those risky, rinky-dink rides that we are always a little nervous to get on but we do it anyways for the thrill of it all. It's the one time a year where there is actually something to do in Shreveport. And it's here again in just a few weeks!
You enter the gates and you see all the risky fun rides and you're already excited to wait in that long ride for those few minutes of thrill. You eat the amazing corn dog or turkey leg knowing its a mistake because as soon as you get on the Tilt-A-Whirl, it'll all be back up and either all over you, or all over that person sitting next to you on the ride. Either way, this is tradition and it's so worth it. Some might say $30 ticket to get the wristband isn't worth it. But to me, the thrill of it all is so worth it.
I live for that feeling of not knowing what's going to happen next. My favorite rides are those you sit in a circle with the other riders and the ride starts swinging back and forth while circling and then eventually either goes upside down or gets right on the verge of going upside down. That feeling in my stomach when I'm at the very top about to come back down is such a huge rush of adrenaline, and I love it. That paired with the crisp breeze and the yummy food, along side my best friends or my love, is what makes these nights worth it.
All year long before the fair reaches us, Shreveport can be a pretty boring place to live. With there only being a few things to do such as going to the movies, going shopping at the boardwalk, or going out to eat, I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say that the LA State Fair is something that a lot of us anticipate.
And we all know that with the fair brings the amazing weather, then Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas, and then on to a brand new year with more anticipation for this time a year to roll around again!
So get ready to grab your friends/significant others, grab those tickets, grab that amazing food, and grab a ride on as many rides that you can. The fair is coming and it's something you definitely don't want to miss!
