We were supposed to finish the rest of the school year strong. We were supposed to get to say goodbye to our college friends. Our parents and family members were supposed to watch us as we walk across that stage to receive our diploma. And we were supposed to get amazing jobs and start the rest of our lives post-college.
Most of that is not going to happen now.
We are stuck inside, being forced to take online classes with none of the college experiences anymore. How is a college senior supposed to cope through this? We worked so hard to get to this point in our lives and it just blew up in our faces instantly.
As a college senior who is about to graduate, I can justify that this transition is a lot harder than people think it is.
We all have had to pack up our entire life and move back home wherever that may be. Even if we were paying for an apartment, what is the use of staying when everyone else moved back home? What is the use of staying in your college town if classes are no longer in person? And what is the use of a cap and gown when your commencement ceremony is canceled?
To my fellow college seniors, this sucks. But I hope you make all A's in your online classes. I hope you get to see your friends even after all of this is over and I hope that colleges see the need for a commencement ceremony when this was not our fault. I hope you get that amazing job and you thrive after going through all of this.
To all the college seniors, it wasn't supposed to happen this way.
