It's Harvest Time

To everyone who has conquered the life changing phenomenon called college, I first want to say CONGRATULATIONS! This is the end of a major stepping stone BUT also the beginning to the rest of your life.

So eventually, the graduation checks will stop coming in, the celebratory glow will fade and you will face the question... “Now what?”

Let me just say, when I said “Now What” I am not addressing anything about a career or anything monetary, I am speaking of self. After graduating we often get caught up in what society wants us to do (get a job, start a family, etc.,) and forget about us, so it's time to put that to an end!

This is the time of your life where you should be the hungriest. Hungry for learning who you really are meant to be, hungry for self-improvement, hungry for self-adventure. This is the period where your hunger for life should be at its peak! Having said that, it is harvest time in your life! And it is up to you to stay hungry for more and dig that bad boy up or let it sit and rot. So, during this season here are two things to remember…

1). We are responsible for how our future plays out simply by our attitude and actions.

Please remember that every word said, every move made, despite of the situation will come back full circle to either bite us in the butt or be a force to push us forward. Everything we do, is alternatively setting up or breaking down significant parts of our future. Yes, I am aware that some people have become successful by ignorance, forgetting where they came from, lack of love for others or just being manipulative. But that type of success isn't built on a firm foundation and will always crumble. Keep your head high, your words few yet impactful, and your heart full of love for others; this is what will draw the missing pieces and persons to you.

And lastly,

2). In order to attract success you must look attractive.

I want you to know that just because you have a degree no one owes you anything... especially not a job. That is not to discourage you but to motivate you! Again, it all goes back to your hunger for life. Life is governed by the law of attraction, and to have success you must attract it. For you to have anything, you will always have to attract it to you. You can do this by simply enjoying your life. The more you drown out the white noise (people or things that do not deserve your attention) and solely focus on you by discovering hidden talents, developing new hobbies and most importantly uncovering the power in you that everyone has witnessed from the beginning. This will for one, set you apart and two advance you into a more successful and happier state of life.

It is time to break the mold, live your life, and I mean LIVE it (and no, going out to the club/bar every weekend does not mean you are living your life).

Your future you is waiting on you!

I love you guys so much,

And once again, Congratulations!

-Di

P.S: If you remember nothing else, please remember that you should never measure your level of success by monetary possessions, but, by the amount of joy, love and peace you have within yourself. Everything else will flock to you if you continue to fully embrace who you were called to be, not who the world wants you to be.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
