Isn't It Romantic?

Romance movies have been ON POINT so far this year and I am loving it.

I LOVE romance movies.

There, I said it. It is 2019 and I am a single, young adult female who's allowed to love cheesy romance movies (and romcoms) without any judgment.

And I am absolutely here for how successful the movie industry has been this year when it comes to films about love. "Isn't It Romantic" and "Five Feet Apart" are just a couple of movies that have been wildly popular since their consecutive releases in February and March.

And there's plenty more where that came from!

There's also "The Sun Is Also A Star," "After," "The Perfect Date," and "Aladdin."

All of these movies were on my list at the beginning of the year, and I've already crossed Rebel Wilson's flick and Cole Sprouse's teenage love story off it! Between the two, "Five Feet Apart" was definitely my favorite.

Not only were the main characters around my age, but:

1) Cole Sprouse has only gotten cuter since his days on Disney Channel.

2) There's a lot of sarcastic, witty, dry humor (which I love).

3) It's simultaneously beautiful and heartbreaking.

4) And it was so insightful about Cystic Fibrosis.

"Isn't It Romantic" was pretty good though. It was very funny in that awkward sense that totally calls out other romcoms on their cheesiness. Plus, any time you put Liam Hemsworth on the big screen, I'll buy a ticket (Gale and Will are still my favorite characters he's played though).

"After" kind of reminds me of a more human version of "Twilight" in that I think the relationship may not be the healthiest. It seems that the male protagonist has a darker past (much like Edward Cullen), so he's dealing with his own demons. Friends and other fans who've actually read through the entire series say his behavior is explained, so here's to hoping he's not a completely awful boyfriend figure.

"The Sun Is Also A Star" is on my Spring/Summer reading list, although I may cave in to the pressure and see the movie first. Seeing the movie first never really affects my decision to read the book it's based on. If I read the book first, that's great and I can put faces to the characters in addition to seeing how they interpret the story. If I read the book after I see the movie, I can picture the actors within the book and all the extra scenes that weren't in the movie are like bonus features!

Needless to say, my love of love stories is thriving this year even if my bank account may not like all the charges from the movie theater. Movies to me, however, are absolutely worth it!

I definitely recommend looking up trailers to all of the movies I've listed above. Even the ones I haven't seen yet seem beautifully shot, scripted, and executed overall!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
