As some know, I was planning on writing my article this week on cheap traveling for a college student; however, will have to wait till next week. This weeks topic is going to be more serious and more of a concern.
As we all sit in the comfort of our homes and our country of freedom, people around the world are falling under the attacks of the Sunni Islamic extremists, ISIS. This topic is still very touchy for many families, but I feel as though with watching and reading so many articles, something should be said.
March 25, 2016, there was a terrorist attack in an Iraqi soccer stadium. As crowds were gathering together to celebrate the championship of a team, a suicide bomber walked in with a bomb strapped to his belt, and killed himself, at least 25 others, and injuring 90 more. This, as far as I know, did not make the news. I did manage to find an article online on CNN to read. ISIS claimed this attack and took responsibility for it as their doing.
We need to open our eyes as a land of freedom that the people in the East are under so much attack. Yes, our country is in shambles. We have our fair share of problems, terrorist attacks, internal struggles, but we can’t dismiss the fact that the Iraqi people are in such a strong battle as well. We see what ISIS is doing to our men, our woman, and our children even and while that is beyond imaginable, more than heartbreaking, the Iraqi people are going through it all the same. So many look at the Eastern people as a whole. They hear of ISIS, turn a blind eye to the east, and look upon Iraqi people as a whole of extremist terrorist. This deceit has to stop. The Western news broadcasts are of the news. These terrorist attacks of the East are nowhere to be heard or seen.
I think it’s a problem when there are ISIS attacks happening on Friday, that we dismiss and I happened to hear it by chance, and an attack happened on Sunday and we got full broadcast of it. Whether it’s about religion or ethnicity doesn’t matter. The fact of the matter is that no matter what religion or race, ISIS is killing men, women, and children any chance they can. This absurd deceit that Iraqis are all the same or that just one religion is under attack, is farther from the truth than imaginable.
We need to stop this wall between religions and races and come together and know and understand that we are all under attack. It’s not about our religion or where we come from, we are all human. The West cannot look at Iraq with an eye of hatred when they are not the enemy. ISIS is the enemy, and the sooner we can understand that, the faster I believe our two countries will understand and have a better sense of peace.
