Today I went to a pet fair to do my mother a favor. She needed to get our dogs vaccinated but she had work and couldn’t do it herself. So I went instead, and what I found at the pet fair was amazing. Animal lovers and pet owners are devoted to creating these events in which people and their pets can enjoy themselves. Which is something special because these days most people have more things to do then time to do it in. Prioritizing becomes essential and pets aren’t always high on the list.
Yet today that general trend wasn’t the case. People and their pets were all over the place, enjoying the different displays and interacting with other owners and pets. People were purchasing new collars and toys among other things. Responsible owners were taking advantage of the free rabies vaccinations and additional vaccinations available. The pets were playing with each other and getting quality treats to enjoy.
This adorable St. Bernard, Bentley, received lots of love from other dogs and owners alike! It was nice to see so much love for pets.
The fair wasn’t just for pet owners and their pets but also for prospective pet owners to give a shelter pet a home. The shelters were offering low adoption fees along with the first round of vaccinations for the pets who needed homes and seemed to be working. Many people who ordinarily wouldn’t consider the responsibility of a pet because of the initial costs were actually adopting the pets.
The small kittens were particularly playful. They all just seemed to want someone to play with. I myself found them endearing and would’ve considered taken one home if I was actually still living at home. Alas it’s not possible while I’m studying at UC Merced but I’m not too worried about those cute kittens. There were plenty of people willing to adopt them and give them the loving homes they need.
Looking back on it now I’m very glad I took my dogs to be vaccinated at the pet fair. I got to see a different side of people: a pet loving side willing to put aside time for those pets. It restores my faith in humanity a bit. Maybe we aren’t all so busy these days to make time for our animal companions.
