An Interview With The Guy I Stalked: Chris Mari

Writing for The Odyssey is such a great job, but one of the downfalls it has is not getting to know your co-workers. Although I low-key hate Chris Mari for always making me come in second place with shares for the week, he's one of my favorite writers for The Odyssey, and now he's a good friend too! Here's an interview with the one and only Chris Mari:

Q: What made you want to write for The Odyssey?

A: I saw some articles online and realized that they were like a college BuzzFeed. I wanted to write for them, so I applied and got in!

Q: What is one perk of writing for The Odyssey?

A: People actually know your name! They come up to me and are like, "Don’t you write for The Odyssey?ā€ It’s sweeeet.

Q: What’s your dream job?

A: Definitely to write for BuzzFeed, because their articles are chill. Or something golf-related, because I love golf.

Q: What do you like to do outside of work?

A: Golf, Greek life, and I work for Universal—so those are fun.

(Hey, Chris, don’t you get free guest passes to Universal? I knew stalking you and being your friend would come in handy.)

Q: What's a guilty pleasure of yours?

A: I actually love doing the cup song...

Q: If you could be an animal, what animal would you be?

A: Koala bear. Sleeping all day sounds awesome.

Q: What does a girl have to do to get your attention at the bar?

A: She just has to show interest by coming up and talking to me, because that rarely ever happens.

(He’s single ladies, you can definitely find him at Stagger Inn on Wednesday nights.)

Q: What is one thing a girl can do that turns you off immediately?

A: Probably point out that I’m short ... like, I obviously know that I am. No need to point it out.

(Ladies, he likes his women a solid 5-foot-2-inches or shorter.)

Q: What is some advice you could give to other men rushing and pledging this upcoming fall?

A: Everything that you do during pledging is for a reason, so always keep that in mind. #PLEDGES

Q: What’s your favorite article of mine? No pressure.

A: Nine Things to Add to Your Summer Checklist.

Q: What’s the craziest thing that’s happened to you as the outcome of writing an article?

A: Death threats from a 40-year-old woman ... Let's just leave it at that.

Q: What do you find most attractive in a girl?

A: If you’re good-looking, have a good personality and you play sports ... you’re perfect.

(Does writing about sports count? There goes that.)

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
