I am not Instagram famous, but I want to be and the truth is, you probably do too. I can tell because you are reading this. Sometimes, people don't realize how easy it is to manipulate your life into looking perfect on Instagram. I analyzed Instagram famous people's Instagrams and based on my "research," I have found out some of the things they do to maintain their perfect image. This guide can be both taken seriously or as a joke, whatever you choose it to be. Now, to the main point, here is the guide to becoming Instagram famous:
1. Get yourself a good camera
Whether that means a phone camera or an actual camera, if you want to be Instagram famous, your pictures better be HD quality because no one likes a blurry, low-quality picture.
2. Have a designated photographer
You need to have a good go-to person that knows all your angles and will take the best candids. What's the point of having a nice camera but a bad photographer?
3. Pick a theme
Whether that means you want to be a model, a fashionista, an athlete, or simply a cool hipster kid, pick a vibe for your Instagram and stick to it.
4. Do not overly edit your pictures
Sometimes the more "raw" and unfiltered your picture is, the better it looks. Try to not overdo it with the saturation or too many filters, and also when you do edit your pictures, stick to one method of editing.
5. The more selfies the better
As humans, we will stare at a face longer than let's say an object or scenery. While it's nice to mix it up and maybe take a cool picture of pretty scenery, if you want to be Instagram famous, take a lot of selfies or pictures of yourself. People want to see you, not your shoes or your coffee necessarily.
6. Make your bio enticing and avoid the "public figure" label
Remeber, this is a guide to becoming Instagram famous, which means you are still not Instagram famous and therefore you probably shouldn't use the "public figure" label. Instead, find a label that actually fits you. For example, if you have a business, then you can put the label "entrepreneur," or just don't use a label at all. Also in your bio, make bullet points that either give in to what your occupation is, the school you attend, or any links to any websites you may have.
7. Make your Instagram stories worthwhile
Before posting an Instagram story, ask yourself, "What is the purpose of posting this, and would I be interested in watching this?" If you don't have a clear answer to both of these questions, then you probably shouldn't post whatever it is you were going to post. Try to post quality instead of quantity stories.
8. Be easy on the use of the geotags and hashtags
While using geotags and hashtags can increase exposure to your content, do not overdo it because it can annoy people, and that leads to them unfollowing you.
9. Take pictures of yourself in the best locations
Whether that means in a city or whatever it is, location matters for the background. You don't want to take a mirror selfie and have a dirty mirror or a mess in the background. Make it as clean as possible to ensure the "perfect" picture.
10. Use humble captions
There is nothing worse than cocky or pompous captions, so be vulnerable and make people believe that even though your life looks perfect, you are only human so that they can feel a connection to you. Sometimes being honest with your captions will make people feel like they can relate.
11. Have the coolest outfits
This is pretty self-explanatory. People like seeing other people dress nice. While there is nothing wrong with sweats and a baggy t-shirt, unless your theme is the "I woke up like this look," then that probably won't get many likes.
At the end of the day, social media is a powerful tool that can be used to quick start any future career, especially the more business side of things. While some people may consider it a waste of time to spend so much time "perfecting" one's social media profiles, I think as long as it does not become obsessive, it is okay.
