Podcasts are so great in that you can listen to them anywhere and learn so much from them. The only problem is there are so many shows out there I have a really hard time deciding which ones to start listening to. Hopefully my list of essential podcasts to stay informed helps you find one you love!

The Daily

static01.nyt.com

If you're looking for coverage on the latest news stories, this is the show for you. This New York Times show provides you with information on big events happening in the world every weekday.

Duolingo Language Podcast

podcast.duolingo.com

If you're trying to learn French or Spanish, Duolingo offers a podcast in both of those languages. This isn't your typical language learning podcast though. This one actually real stories told in that target language. If you're looking to improve your foreign language skills, I would definitely check this show out.

TED Talks Daily

pi.tedcdn.com

We've all seen TED Talks. These short episodes let you hear from experts about so many different things.

Stuff You Should Know

i.iheart.com

I love this show because I've learned so many random things from it and have the answers to questions I never would've thought about. The things you'll learn from this show also surprisingly make good conversation starters.

NPR News Now

media.npr.org

This podcast is great if you don't have a lot of time but want to hear about what's going on in the world. A few episodes are released throughout the day and they're all only about 5 minutes long.

Dissect

dissectpodcast.com

This show takes an in-depth look at your favorite songs and albums. Enough said.

Radiolab

media.wnyc.org

This show explains such a wide range of concepts. I love how this show will take one concept and then look at in so many different ways. If you're looking for a podcast where you can hear stories and learn something totally new this is definitely a show you should check out.

Teenager Therapy

teenagertherapy.carrd.co

This show is totally relatable. A group of friends just talk about their everyday struggles as teenagers.

Hidden Brain

media.npr.org

Here's another podcast that will make you consider things you probably never have before. This show tells stories and shares information about the behaviors we experience as humans.

Crime Junkie

megaphone.imgix.net

This one is for all of my fellow crime show obsessed listeners.

I hope these suggestions help you find a podcast you really love so that you can become a more informed (and entertaineed) person.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
