In Wintertime

A song for the holidays

36
In Wintertime
Shuttershock

This song--is it still a song if you've never heard the melody? Maybe just a poem--was written a long time ago, back in April. I imagined a joyful winter holiday celebration with my friends and family.

And you know what? I still believe that that can happen.

This year has been tough on all of us, but as long as we can still feel a bit of joy and anticipation for a brighter future, I think we'll be alright again. I hope so.

The wind howled, into the night

While we sat, by the firelight

As red, as a summer rose

We haven't been this close

Since last December

We were told, we had to part

I alone, picked up the parts

Of my broken heart

But now, as we are playing cards

I smile warmer, than I remember

Cause we, are constellations

Strung together, no matter how far

All of us, throughout the nations

We will make pictures with one shining star

At a time

We will dine throughout the night

We will shine, cause we are filled with light

We will dance, under the patterned sky

She and he and you and I

In Wintertime

In Wintertime,

Oh, oh

The daytime is falling fast

Soon yesterday, is a year past

So when the time has come, I look back

To when, there was nothing to lack

We were told, we had to part

But we kept in touch, through it all

You guys still, touch my heart

Through tears and laughter, fears and all

We will dine throughout the night

We will shine, cause we are filled with light

We will dance, under the patterned sky

She and he and you and I

In Wintertime

In Wintertime...

Someday, we'll be together once more

Into a place with an open door

And our shoes will hit the floor

Dancing until our feet are sore

We will sing until we cannot

We will eat until our hearts are full

Join us where the feast is hot

We'll be there, and our hearts are full

We'll be there, and our hearts are full

We'll be there, we'll be there

We'll be there...

Because together, we'll always be

We've been through a lot, under the stars

Acceptance and joy, we'll come to see

As we go on healing each other's scars

Every time

We will dine throughout the night

We will shine, cause we are filled with light

We will dance, under the patterned sky

She and he and you and I

In Wintertime

In Wintertime,

Oh, oh

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
