Every so often the media shines a light on a particularly notable topic, and the internet takes hold. It sweeps the issues into a passionate influx of fundraisers, petitions, and marches, only to become lost in an ocean of cyberspace days later. Though social media is a groundbreaking platform for sharing important issues and making a change, this generation's short attention span tends to grab debacles and leave them with reckless abandon. Here are 5 dilemmas and how to help them.
1. The Flint Michigan Water Crisis

Michigan has ended its free water bottle program to the residents of Flint, claiming that the water quality is "well within the standards". However, many people are extremely doubtful as the lead pipes have yet to be replaced. Most residents only bath, drink, and eat with bottled water, refusing to use anything from the taps.
They've relied on bottled water for a majority of the past four years, and a panic has risen this past April when the government has decided to stop funding. The concern is understandable, as poisonous pipes are still in place, and several officials have already been charged with felony charges after failing to treat the water from the beginning. 2. Earth Day

Yes, even though it's no longer April 22nd, our planet is still suffering. Read my article here for ways to help.
3. Net Neutrality

The people at FFTF (Fight for the Future) are still adamantly fighting to save net neutrality. Text "BATTLE" to 384387 to stay in the loop about the process, and keep updated on how to make a difference.
4. Planned Parenthood
Since Trump came into office, there has been a lot of concern about the defunding of Planned Parenthood. Additionally, the proposed "gag rule" would block patients from care at these facilities-- keeping women from birth control /preventative care, and making dangerous, illegal abortion more of a possibility. Text "Trump" to 22422 to stay informed about the Trump-Pence administration's impact on women's health care, and click here to fight the gag rule.
5. Standing Rock and the Dakota Access Pipeline
The Standing Rock Reservation is fighting the Pipeline "to protect their water, their sacred places, and all living beings". It would travel under the Missouri River and through a sacred burial ground, potentially endangering the water source for 10,000 people. Donate here.
