It's very cliché to say that as long as you find your passion, you will be happy. However, this is one of the clichés that I believe in wholeheartedly. It makes little to no sense to go into an industry that you're not passionate about because, sooner or later, boredom will set in. I'd rather follow a career that will inspire me to explore the nooks and crannies of my dreams than be dreading going to work everyday. I understand that, no matter what path I follow, I'll probably have some low days. But that doesn't mean the majority of my time won't be spent doing something interesting and fulfilling.
Having a passion promotes a sense of creativity. All of the sudden, you'll find yourself connecting two aspects of your life together that you never thought could coexist. You may be inspired to start a blog to share your ideas with the world, or you may be more compelled to show your talents in a more hands-on environment. Either way, you'll find yourself daydreaming about it in the middle of day and becoming obsessed with learning all information possible. Sooner or later, that creative side will make an appearance and you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Without passion, there isn't much motivation to work. Yes, there are material motivations such as a large bank account, the biggest house or a new car. When those things are put into perspective, though, one learns that these wants will only satisfy you for a certain amount of time before you want something else. Following your dreams suppresses all of these desires because you're striving for knowledge rather than money. Knowledge is a motivation in itself because it is infinite. You could never have too much, but you'll never have it all.
I know some people have a difficult time finding their passion or simply believe they don't have one. It's true that it might be hard to find one if you're following the same routine every day. Without introducing something new and exciting, it's going to be hard to suddenly develop a fascination for something you've been doing for years without much interest. In order to find your passion, you'll have to stray from your path. Take that extra elective, pottery class or math class. You'll never know if you're good, or awful, at something unless you try, right? Don't be afraid of failure; think of all the good that could come out of your success.
It may seem daunting to have a passion. What if you find something you love, but it doesn't have a promising future? Well, more likely than not, if you're passionate about something you're going to excel at it. All of the sudden, becoming the best in your field will be doable and your future will be more than promising.
