I'm Not A Party Girl And I'm Fine With That

I'm in the minority with this opinion.

"Have fun, but not too much fun..."

It's the line that every college kid hears when they are either just entering their college years or even when they're in the middle of them. It's just a wonderful reminder of the stigma that college kids have, that we're nothing but a bunch of party kids who like to booze it up every weekend. Well, to be frank, those people couldn't be more wrong, and I'm an example of it.

In high school, I didn't party much and when I say party throughout this article, I mean party as in getting drunk, high, or both. The way I would have fun was simply hanging out with my friends. We would watch movies, play card games, walk around town and get lunch, or any other harmless activity.

That behavior definitely followed me when I got to college. I was lucky enough to find friends that don't like that party scene either. We like to do the same things I did back in high school with my old friends. Of course, we all have cars now and can expand our adventures a little.

There are two main reasons for why I choose not to go with the party life.

1. It doesn't excite me, at all.

I don't need to get drunk or high to enjoy spending time with my friends. I have had sips of certain harmless boozes in my 19 years (like at New Years Eve parties and church wines), and honestly, I don't know what the "buzz" is all about. I know some are "an acquired taste", but I'll wait until I'm of legal age to acquire that taste.

2. I would have some serious repercussions if I was caught.

My father is a cop, and he's very strict when it comes to the rules. I was raised to understand that when it comes to that stuff, it's black and white. It's illegal for me to drink right now, period. It's illegal for me to smoke marijuana, period.

I will never judge those who enjoy partying. I will just simply decline your invitation for me to join you. I also don't want those who enjoy partying to think that I'm saying I'm better than them. It's just that the party scene does not make me feel comfortable. My idea of a great night out is Chinese food with my friends, chilling at one of their houses, and watching movies.

I don't have to do this stuff to fit in, I know that I'm probably in the minority of this topic, but I've learned to be proud of that. I also understand that "peer pressure" is still out there but I've already had my tussles with that.

Guess what? I won.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
