Before reading this please understand that this is not a conjoint opinion from all Christians, but a personal opinion of myself. Not all Christians believe this way, it is just something I believe and wanted to get out there.
Why are Christians more known by the things we hate, rather than the things we love? One big thing Christians are known for is being against gay marriage and homosexuality in general. They were there to protest gay marriage during the supreme court ruling and are still protesting it today.
According to FBI’s latest hate crime statistics, the percent of hate crimes committed against religious groups is the same as hate crimes against a person due to their sexual orientation. I had no idea that it would be the same percentage when I went to research it. So you are telling me that people are hurting others because of who they decide to love. It is crazy that our world has come to this today. We are putting others down because they worship this God or these gods. Where is the love?
We as Christians are called to spread the word and love of Jesus Christ. How can we show the love of Christ if all we do is condemn the sins of the world and put people down for the wrongs they have done? Why aren’t we instead showing the grace and mercy of a perfect Father and being there for them during their time of need? If all we do is judge and gossip about their sin, aren’t we committing the same sin?
Matthew 7:1-5 says, “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.”
God is telling us that we are seeing the sin our neighbor is committing but as we see that, we aren’t even noticing the wrongdoing that we have done that he has forgiven us for. We aren’t perfect people and neither is anyone else. We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. He sees all sins as having equal value.
1 Corinthian 6:9-10 says, “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.”
There is an ongoing tendency to declare homosexuality as the worst of all sins. While it is obvious, biblically speaking as shown in the scripture above, that homosexuality is immoral, in no way does the Bible describe homosexuality as an unforgivable sin. Nor does the Bible teach that homosexuality is a sin Christians will never struggle against. The Scripture above was even written to a church! It is very possible for a Christian to struggle with homosexual temptations. All of us as Christians struggle with something. None of us are perfect and are without struggle. So why aren’t we showing the grace God has showed to us? The bottom line is I just want everybody to love everybody, that’s all I want. I love all you beautiful people, Jesus loves all of you, and you should love everyone too.
I don’t want to make this too long and drawn out because I have so many ideas and beliefs about this issue that I want to get out there. I will be writing a part two to this article next week. Let us keep spreading the grace and love of our great and mighty savior.
