If Each Of Your Friends Were Donuts

If you're a glazed, I'm a glazed...donut that is.

I never really understood different kinds of friends. I thought everyone always had their best friends, and everyone else was on a second tier of friendship. However, as I got older I found that there were more and more types of friends you could have. On a recent trip to Bill's Donut Shop (a University of Dayton staple) I discovered so many similarities to type of friends you have and different types of donuts.

1. The Red Velvet with Cream Cheese Icing

This friend of yours is exactly as extra as the donut. The rich stories they tell match the density of the donut they embody. These donuts and friends are great for parties, but they can be overwhelming if indulged too frequently.

2. The Rainbow Sprinkle

Let's face it: this donut is pretty. These are those friends of yours who have pristine Instagram aesthetic. Sprinkled donuts and friends are undeniably charismatic. So classic you can't help but hope having them in your social media will get you more traffic.

3. Maple Bacon Madness

This donut is that friend you have, but your not reall sure how or why you became friends. Just like this donut combines savory with sweet your friendship is the definition of opposites attracting. The key to this friendship is balance, like all good maple bacon donuts.

4. Boston Cream Filled

This donut is the friend that surprised you. Like a Boston Cream donut this friend revealed something new and exciting in your life; maybe they were shy until you got to know them or maybe they are a secret double agent for the FBI. Boston Cream donuts show how friendships can always lead to new chapters in our lives.

5. THE Classic Glaze

The original donut. The be all, end all of donuts. This friend is the one who sticks with you throughout the years. The classic glazed donut is THE best friend you could ever have, and much like a classic glazed donut from Bill's, never disappoints.

So, it's okay to like all donuts; it's okay to like all people. All donuts are beautiful. And if you haven't already, I hope you find your Glazed Donut.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

A Few Thoughts Every College Freshman Has

The transition into adulthood is never easy

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
