If UCLA Dining Halls Were Kardashians

There are two things I can't go a day without hearing about. The first? UCLA dining. The second? The Kardashians. Although I really only care about one of those things, I can't deny the uncanny similarities between the two subjects. Each UCLA dining establishment, like the Kardashians, has its own flavor (pun intended) and identity. So if each UCLA dining hall were a Kardashian, it'd most likely go a little something like this:

De Neve

De Neve is the Kim Kardashian of the UCLA dining halls. The most popular of the dining halls, De Neve is the first one you'll think of when asked about the UCLA food. De Neve has the ability to make our bodies swell, whether it's from weekend brunch or the deliciousness of Late Night, sort of like Kim during her first pregnancy. Need a big butt? Go to De Neve. Furthermore, Kim Kardashian loves to be seen. And let's be real, were you really at De Neve if you weren't seen at De Neve?

B-Plate

B-plate is the Khloe Kardashian of the UCLA dining halls. B-Plate is the healthy dining hall, the one we proudly prance around in our post-workout state. Now, Khloe was always ridiculed for being the "bigger" sister, but as of lately (and according to her multitude of instagram posts), Khloe has been kicking butt at the gym and has lost quite a bit of weight over the years.

Covel

Covel is the Kourtney Kardashian of the UCLA dining halls. It produces the most babies (food babies, of course) with all its carbs and pasta. And in all honesty, Covel is a pretty boring dining hall to go to. So how does Kourtney fit into this? If you're wondering this, I have to ask you, when has Kourtney ever been funny or interesting? And have you ever even heard her monotone voice?

Feast

Feast is the Rob Kardashian of the UCLA dining halls. No one knows anything about Feast, and quite frankly, no one cares about it. I mean, when was the last time anyone saw Rob? Are we even sure he is still alive? And tragically, Rob has gained quite a bit of weight since the first season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. He is the "fat" Kardashian, and well, you can't spell Feast without F-a-t.

Rendezvous

Rendezvous is the Kris Jenner of the UCLA dining halls. Kris Jenner, the "mom-ager," struggles to juggle the careers of all her children. Rendezvous struggles to juggle twenty different styles of food; from Mexican to Asian to Southwestern, Rendezvous has got a lot on its plate and has to keep its type of foods organized. Furthermore, Rendezvous is currently under construction, sort of like how Kris Jenner is constantly under construction with all those facelifts and botox she gets in her desperation to stay "young".

B-Cafe

B-Cafe is the Scott Disick of the UCLA dining halls. Open until 2 a.m. every night, B-Cafe is always ready for a good party. It brings the smiles from across campus as Turkey Provolones are created to perfection. It's the "Lord" of all dining establishments at UCLA. Now, I know Scott isn't technically a Kardashian and it's a shame he is out of the picture (for now, at least), but he was the reliable alcoholic that was always out and refused to shut down. You can always count on B-cafe and Scott to be where the late-night parties are at.

Cafe 1919

No disrespect, but Cafe 1919 is just too good to compare to any Kardashian.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
