Without a doubt, How I Met Your Mother was an amazing show. It taught us so much about living life, pursuing our dreams, and never giving up hope. Although in the show the cast was well beyond their college years, they would have fit right in with the Greek community.
1. Ted: Phi Mu
Like the women of Phi Mu, Ted lives his life based on the values of love, truth, and honor. He is a hopeless romantic. Even when he gets left at the altar, he still believes that the right girl is out there for him. He is also a knight in shining armor to anyone who needs him. For example, he sat hours digging holes in Central Park with Robin to help her find the locket she buried there as a teenager. When they did not find it, Ted made it his priority to track it down. In the process he flew across the country and jumped into a lake in Central Park. No matter what, he is always there for his friends and is not afraid of making grand gestures to help someone.
2. Lily: Alpha Chi Omega
Lily is an Alpha Chi Omega. She is very loyal to the people she trusts and cares for them deeply. Lily is supportive of her friend’s decisions, regardless if she agrees with them or not (although she is not afraid to gloat when she is right). For instance, Lily is always there for Robin throughout her tumultuous love life. Lily does not judge Robin for her choices; instead she makes sure that Robin is happy with her life. Also, Lily is very determined and refuses to give up on her dreams. Even after years of being a kindergarten teacher, Lily realizes that she still wants to have a career in art. She did not stand by idly; she went out there, got herself a job as an art consultant for the Captain, and moved her family to Italy for a year to continue working. There is no denying it, Lily is one real strong woman.
3. Marshall: Alpha Gamma Delta
Marshall is an Alpha Gamma Delta. Because of his Minnesotan upbringing, he is very polite and always thinks the best of people. He is always willing to help someone in need, even if that means inadvertently helping them rob an apartment. Marshall also cares a lot about his friends and especially for Lily. He is utterly devoted to her and their family. What really makes Marshall an Alpha Gamma Delta is his dedication to making the world a better place for everyone. He is not afraid to make sacrifices to make other people happy. For Lily he gave up an opportunity to become a judge so that she could fulfill her dream of being an art consultant in Italy. Eventually, Marshall would become a judge and help bring about changes that would protect the environment from the destruction of big bank corporations. He never ceased to inspire and impact the world.
4. Robin: Delta Gamma
Robin is a Delta Gamma. She is very career oriented and pushes herself to do her best. When Robin first started out as a reporter at Metro News 1, it was sometimes difficult for her to maintain her professional integrity. Her show did not have many viewers and did not cover the hard hitting stories she desired. Nevertheless, Robin worked hard and eventually secured a job at World Wide News. She isn’t all business though, she also knows how to have a good time and enjoy life. Robin may have a tough exterior that she uses to hide her emotions, but deep down she cares a lot. When she found out that she is unable to have children, Robin put on a brave face for the public but inside it really hurt her. This is also a testament to her strength and will. Robin is the type of woman who is always doing good.
5. Barney: Delta Delta Delta
Barney is a Delta Delta Delta. He has a lot of enthusiasm for life and is always seeking to have a legen… wait for it… DARY time. Whether he is going laser-tagging or completing a crazy challenge, time spent with Barney is always going to be a blast. Barney is extremely loyal to his friends, often doing just about anything to help them live their lives to the fullest. Acting as Ted’s wingman throughout the entirety of the show and flying all the way out to San Francisco to convince Lily to come back to Marshall. Barney’s schemes are definitely outlandish, but he always comes through for his friends. Like the ladies of Delta Delta Delta, Barney is the type of friend who will stick it out for the long haul.
