"If God Is For Us, Who Can Be Against Us?'

-- Romans 8:31

"If God Is For Us, Who Can Be Against Us?'

How can something so short and simple, speak so loudly to my heart? It doesn’t have fancy words that I’ll have to look up to understand or a long monologue that drags on and on. It’s just one straightforward sentence, with a lot of meaning behind it. Although it may not affect every person equally, this sentence makes me feel empowerment and an undying love from my savior Jesus Christ. I don’t know if it’s my Christian background or if it is just my individual way of interpretation, but with one extremely vague sentence, it expresses one big underlying story with incredible meaning.

It’s not just what was written that delays the powerful message, it’s how it was written. Although there is no known author, history declares the authorship belongs to Paul the disciple. Now, I’m not trying to tell you this man named Paul just pulled words out of his rear end. No, these were words from God. The good God Almighty himself had put these words into this man’s head for a purpose. He wanted the whole world to hear what he wanted to say. Through Paul, God showed him stories, showed him love, showed him the meaning of life. And following God’s pursuit, Paul wrote it for all the people of the world to see, and read, and come to know.

I want you to pay close attention to the word “us” that is used twice. This is done for a reason. He could’ve said for me, or for you, or for all the followers of Christ, or for those who only do right and never sin. But no, he said “us.” Because in the Lord’s eyes, we are all equally important, there are no groups or classifications, or social statuses. We, Us, Everyone. This goes out to all his sons and daughters, whether you’re black, white, short, tall, a perfect Christian, or a sorry sinner. He wants his message to reach the world as a whole. And for people to know that if you accept God into your heart, you are safe. These words means safety. That no harm God doesn’t think you could handle will be thrown your way. If you have him, you have everything. I know if I am having a terrible day or feel like everything in my life is wrong, I can turn to the Lord because of the words I have read in the bible such as this verse I am sharing with you. Tying this message into the word “us” makes us all just one big family that comes together as a unity -- equally, shamelessly, beautifully, under God.

There’s a reason why some may call it the Good Book, or for those who do not have faith, it’s just a plain old book. But to one person a red car may look red, to another, it will look maroon, or to another even burgundy. Every single person in this world thinks differently. We all have different ethnicities, races, cultures, and just all together a different history which ultimately affects our perception of the world. What is good writing for me may not be good writing for you, whoever you are reading my blog. But after the discussions, we had in class I come to realize there are no rules, or guidelines or any type of certain structure to define good writing. If it’s good, it will catch your interest and serve the purpose it was written for. This verse from the bible has no structure or configuration, it’s just one little darn-good sentence -- that serves a purpose.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
