I want to be my dog when I grow up. I can always count on him to be loyal and ready to chase the next adventure thrown his way. Dog-lovers sometimes handpick new dogs based on their personality and character traits to best suit lifestyle or family needs. If you were a dog breed based on your college major, what dog would you be? Would you be a posh Poodle strutting the streets of France or would you be a Golden Retriever galavanting through the great outdoors? Here is a list of 14 college majors and the dog breed they represent.
1. American Studies – Yorkshire Terrier
Students studying American Studies are usually friendly, energetic, and extremely patriotic towards America. Yorkshire Terriers share similar personality traits and are known for their affection. They are always there when you need a cuddle or a friendly face to make all your problems disappear. You will never feel alone around an American Studies major or a Yorkshire Terrier, but neither really understand the concept of personal space because of their overly optimistic attitude.
2. Environmental Studies – Golden Retriever
Golden Retrievers are the perfect fit for Environmental Studies majors because their main purpose in life is to make the world a better place. Their outdoorsy personality allows them to explore their surroundings through sniffing in search of things to bring home – they are professionals at the retrieving game. Golden Retrievers want nothing more than a sunny day outside to make new discoveries.
3. English – Rough Collie
Like the character in the novel, Lassie Come-Home, English majors sure do love a good story with a happy ending. Their intelligent and witty chirps make for good time. Rough Collie's enjoy being around people, but if they are left alone for too long they bark excessively to get attention. Similarly, English majors enjoy being the center of attention.
4. Mathematics – Boston Terrier
Known as the American Gentleman, the Boston Terrier is lively, smart, and affectionate with a gentle temperament. Like Applied Mathematics majors, they can be super stubborn, so persistence and consistency are definite musts during training. They also require exposure to new experiences at a young age, otherwise, they tend to be a little on the awkward side of life.
5. Architecture – Neapolitan Mastiff
These loyal and effective guard dogs will have your back no matter what. Like Architecture majors, they are up until the very late hours of the night. The become grouchy if irritated, so just be sure to stay on this droopy-faced dog’s good side, ok?
6. Sport Science – Jack Russell
Famous for their hyperactive personalities, Jack Russell's are loved for their energetic and friendly tendencies. Like Sports Science students, they are pretty fearless when it comes to taking chances. They thrive on athletic activities.7. Political Science – Pug
Have you ever successfully debated with a Political Science student about opposing political views without feeling annihilated? Nope. Both Political Science majors and Pugs can be quite willful, which makes convincing them to do something a little challenging. They are highly intelligent and sassy, which allows them to persuade people to give in to their requests.
8. Economics/Business – Brussels Griffon
This funny looking dog breed has a tendency to dominate other dogs, despite its diminutive physical frame. Their unique look appeals to dog-lovers, but they are pretty bossy when it comes to getting what they want. They know how to strategically use their cuteness to their advantage.
9. French – Poodles
French is not a major, it is a way of life. Poodles are fun-loving dogs with a sense of the ridiculous. You will never meet an ordinary French major or Poodle. They are always unique and interesting. Their spastic behavior comes with the territory of being French.
10. Philosophy – Komondor
This goofy guy accurately represents Philosophy majors, who are known to look a little shaggy. They question everything around them and tend to be a little socially awkward due to embracing their unique personal expression.
11. Psychology – Welsh Corgi
The Welsh Corgi is known for being an exceptional companion dog and one of the best service dogs available. They are dedicated to their owner's needs and have a strong attachment to their family. Like Psychology majors, they talk (bark!) a lot about their feelings.
12. Nutrition – Puli
Earth-loving is his second name. This Puli pulls it off Jamaican style, and really enjoys herding sheep. Nutrition majors share this passion because they are always in search of fresh produce. His fur is virtually water resistant, which helps him physically endure the elements while guarding the herd (food).
13. Computer Science/Engineering – Greyhound
Greyhounds are usually a little aloof toward strangers. Like Computer Science majors, if you give them a treat, they will become your friend for life. They are super intelligent and independent, even catlike in some ways.
14. History – Rottweiler
Like Rottweilers, History majors are extremely vocal and aggressive when debating their viewpoints. They are focused on the sadistic parts of the world and will do anything to protect the past.
