I stumbled upon a certain ad one day while I was surfing about on YouTube. The ad in particular was promoting a YouTube channel known as Super Deluxe, but the video comprising the ad itself, three minutes in length, presented something peculiar, unfamiliar, and yet so mesmerizing to look at.

That certain something were none other than ice cream rolls.

Ice cream rolls, or stir-fried ice cream, is a dessert made with either milk or cream, with a choice of any fruit or sugary topping. Prepared similarly to how regular stir-fry is made, with turner spatulas and a (cold) stove, the ingredients are mixed and mashed and scooped and chopped up into one, deliciously sweet treat. The frozen concoction is then smoothed out upon the cold pan, scraped into rolls, and placed in a sundae cup, where it’s then served with just about any topping you can think of.

Think Cold Stone Creamery, but instead of scoops and a cold stone mixing different flavors, it’s spatulas and a cold stove mixing several ingredients into an ice cream… and making them into nice little rolls.

But, you wonder as you’re reading this, why should I know about ice cream rolls? They look delicious and all, probably might get one myself sometime, but what else is so great about them, Geselle?

Take a gander at Super Deluxe’s video, and by the first 30 seconds, your ears will be met with some of the most pleasuring, ASMR sounds they have ever heard.

And if the sounds aren’t enough to convince you ice cream rolls is are one of the most sensually satisfying desserts you’ve come across, just look at how they’re usually prepared:

While they may have been in the US for at least since 2015, I’m rather surprised I have not come across the knowledge of stir-fried ice cream until now. Though it does seem like a rather niche dessert, seeing that none of the Carvel’s or Baskin-Robbin’s I’ve been to have had this as a menu option, it nonetheless deserves a little more attention. If anything, it’s a refreshing and intriguing take on the classic dessert most of us know and love.

So if I convinced you enough, go out and seek an ice cream roll shop when you have the time later this spring. I’ll be sure to do just that myself when the days get warmer soon enough.
