As I walk down the hallway, I’m surprised at how accurate Mean Girls was at portraying high school. My eyes spot everyone’s classic popular favorite, Strawberry, flipping her hair in slow motion out of the way of her carefully planned all-designer outfit.
The tune of “you raaisee me upp” floats through the hallway from its host, Chocolate. Intense, passionate, and focused solely on one flavor, one goal -- performing arts.
I pass by preppy Coffee, the rich, creamy and privileged Ivy-league destined students. Besides them are the often glanced over Vanilla Bean nerds, exhausted from overuse and a full schedule of AP/IB classes. Not to mention the pressure of maintaining a pure white report card.
I step into my first cone, IB Business, surrounded by Coffee. To introduce ourselves to our class, the teacher had us create “Who Am I?” posters. That’s when I thought to myself, “who am I?” What flavor appears average but is unique, is forgettable and underrated, but sweet and friendly?
Cherry Garcia fits perfectly; I’m friendly and likable, but I never stand out or come to mind instantly. I’ve always enjoyed Cherry Garcia; its flavor genuine and truly unique. I wouldn’t say I’m completely nerdy, just like Cherry Garcia, with only a Vanilla base. Cherry Garcia stands in the background till others are reminded of its presence and it becomes a temporary, likable favorite. Shy and average- looking, yet full of pleasant surprises like fudge flakes and cherries once you get to know it.
