When you think of a library… you may think of a quiet place. You may even think of a place that is just for books. What if, just for minute, you realize this place is an escape. It is an escape from the crowded hallways, the sound of lockers slamming, and the place where times slows down. I hope you find your high school library for numerous reasons, but here's a couple:
1. A safe place.
When you're overwhelmed and upset… I hope you walk into your library. Its quiet and it gives you a sense of comfort. It can be crowded, but you start to feel as if you're home. You may look to your right and see a friend you haven't talked to. You may take a deep breath of air and smell the coffee. As time goes on, you walk into the library more because it becomes your safe place… maybe it becomes your place.
2.A place to cry.
When you're in high school, you realize there's not many places to cry. You could receive the worst news of your life, but there is no empty space. The library is the place that holds your secrets. The four walls of the library never judge, they never tell, and they never think of you less. Those four walls see you at your highest and lowest, and they still love you the same.
3.A place to make memories.
A High School library isn't just a place to read. It is a place to make friends, or to meet people you will remember for the rest of your life. I know it can be intimidating to make new friends but remember… these people are special.
4.The librarians.
I know, they seem scary. I promise you… they don't bite. They may just be the person you were looking for. You may be having the worst day of your life, and you see their smile. They all hold a story of their own, but you will always be apart of their chapters. They are the people that make you see that everything is okay…
The library is the heart of a high school.
Before you realize it… it becomes your heart.
So, if you have the chance, find your library.
