Bye, bye Netflix & chill, I think it’s time to Hulu & hang.
It’s to the point where I only keep Netflix to watch three shows religiously: “Family Guy”, “Friends” and “The Office”. Netflix used to have the entire series of “Family Guy”, until recently when it only left seasons 1-8 to stream. It turns out that Netflix never resigned their contract with Fox and is actually getting completely rid of “Family Guy” come February.
Now, along with “Family Guy” leaving, within the past few months, Netflix has gotten rid of tons of classic TV shows, such as “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, “How I Met Your Mother”, “30 Rock”, and “One Tree Hill”. Netflix is taking off television shows that we all know and love, and replacing them with ‘Netflix Originals’.
Now, I understand that a company as big as Netflix has to switch up their business plan every now and then, but we all fell in love with Netflix for having every season of our favorite shows, and movies we loved being able to stream instantly on demand.
Netflix is replacing our favorite TV shows with their favorite “originals”.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I love “Orange Is the New Black” and “Stranger Things”, but this is not what we originally signed up for!
I guarantee in the next few years, Netflix will be entirely Netflix originals.
This wouldn’t bother me as much if Netflix wasn’t increasing prices. I know that it’s cheaper than cable, but the prices have raised to roughly $13 a month for mostly Netflix originals? Hmmm.
This introduces the idea of Hulu. Netflix’s arch enemy. Batman v Joker. Superman v Lex Luthor. Hulu prices start at $7.99. As a broke college student, I can handle this price. Especially because the shows that I want to watch are available to stream! Something that makes Hulu different than other streaming services, is that they include current season TV. Yep, that means you can binge all your favorite shows like “This Is Us”.
And remember those shows that left Netflix? They’re all available on Hulu.
Although “The Office” and “Friends” aren’t available on Hulu, I guarantee Netflix will kick the show eventually, like every other hit TV show.
All in all, I truly believe Netflix is going down the drain and only stays alive because they thrive over their huge shows ("Stranger Things" and "Orange is the New Black"). They are kicking all of the hit TV shows we all know and love and replacing them with their originals, and they are going to continue to raise prices. I'm switching to Hulu to save some coin and to be reconnected with all of my favorite TV shows that Netflix got rid of.
