I honestly do not know who I would be without any one of you. I always look back at my summers from my childhood. I remember the times of swimming in the pool or even breaking my leg falling off the monkey bars, but they don’t impact me as much as you do.
You helped me grow into this well rounded adult, without even realizing what kind impact you honestly had on me. You never gave up on me. I would look around the groups and you would be the first person to be cheering me on. I wanted to be just like you when I grew up. Every single school year and actually still to this day, the only thing I can talk about is camp and how much I want camp to start up again. And I honestly have to thank every single one of you for that.
Each summer, we built up memories together and alongside. You showed me what each core value meant and how to actually show it. Respect, honesty, caring, and responsibility! You taught me that it’s totally okay to make a fool of yourself in front of people. And you honestly should do it. I faced fears each summer because of you. I mean yes, I did break my foot from getting across the monkey bars but I got across it! Thanks for giving me the courage to get across it.
Thank you for being my biggest fan, my guide on how to be an excellent camper, and how to make everlasting friendships. Also thank you for letting me pie you in the face that one summer. It’s one of my most favorite memories. Thank you for giving me nicknames that still stuck to me today, “Miss Smiley”, I still like to think that describes me better than anything.
That’s what camp is to me, my most favorite memories and a second home. Camp Elmwood will always have a place in my heart, it will always be my favorite place of my childhood. The impact and difference camp had on my life was all because you all made camp the best place to be. Camp isn’t just about the activities and games you play or friends you make; it really depends on your counselors.
And what I think is even better is that we still stay connected today, we might not talk or have these crazy summers we did years ago, but I know I made an impact in your life just as you made in mine. Summer is my favorite season and it’s because each summer you made me feel special. And I honestly hope one day my campers feel the exact same way about me. Thank you so much for inspiring me, helping me become who I am today, and inspire me to work at camp each summer. I wouldn’t be who I am today without the help of you each summer!
