An Open Letter To My High School Graduating Class

To my graduating class from high school,

Hey guys! It’s been a while!

How has life been treating all of you?

Whenever I think back to high school, I am overcome with a sense of nostalgia; the familiar faces that used to surround me in class or that I would frequently pass in the hallway are now filled with ones that are foreign to me. It is weird to have gone from seeing all of you every day, to barely seeing any of you.

We have all grown up together, from learning to read and write in elementary school, to going through our awkward stages together in middle school, and finally, to finding ourselves as young adults in high school.

As students in a small school district like ours, we all knew each other very well, and for most of our lives. News traveled fast through our school, and we practically knew everything about everyone. Now, we are all scattered across the world. News about our now-former peers doesn’t travel as fast, and we are not all kept up to date on each other’s lives.

Though our graduating class was small, there were many people I was not close friends with. Some of you were just peers in my classes, faces I would constantly see in the hallways. It is weird to think that because we were not close in high school, there is a good chance we will never see each other again.

Let that sink in a little.

The people whom we have all grown up with may never cross our paths again. That person who we have worked on that science project with, or sat next to in math class, is just someone who is now only a memory from our pasts.

I am not sure about you guys, but that makes me feel sad. I was so ready to leave high school, and break away from the “bubble” of a community I grew up in. Now, as a college student, I think back to the day of our high school graduation, the last time we were all together. Are we all ever going to be together again?

I am forever grateful for social media, as it enables all of us to stay connected and somewhat unified. We are able to keep up to date with the lives of our former peers from the photos and posts they share. We are able to see what our former peers are accomplishing as they continue on their journey through life.

Though we were all not best friends, we are all unified together through the memories we have shared in and out of the classroom for thirteen years of our lives. I hope that our paths cross again, and that we are all not just a memory from the past.

Please stay in touch.

Sincerely,

Your former classmate

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
