On April 29, Drake graced every stans’ ears with his fourth solo studio album, "VIEWS." My friends told me not to listen to the album because I would drop everything to get back with my ex or really demand more of my current love interest. Most people enjoy Drake because he is easily relatable to anyone having issues in their love life or with loyalty, which tends to be 99% of the time for me. Drake basically takes his diary and uses it to produce some real emotional fire. Those who do not like Drake are usually just not fans of his simplistic delivery. On the contrary, it is one of the reasons I love him. Simple lines of similes and metaphors are actually great when you just want to get to the point and tell someone how much they made you “feel a way."
In each song, Drake addresses a situation usually in regards to loyalty, pressure, shit-talking or love/heartbreak. These themes also describe my life’s issues which is probably why I feel that Drake read my life to filth in a twenty song album memoir.
Before I get into the songs that had me rethink life, I want to mention that Drake has songs on the album that people can play before the turn-up. These songs include “Controlla," “Hype," “Grammy’s," “One Dance," “Pop Style" and “Still Here." I am convinced that through these dance songs, Drake is trying to get through whatever issues he has through slow whining, popping bottles and spending time with friends. We all know most people love to avoid any problems by turning up. However, we all know that this is a quick fix to the emotional breakdown you are going to have two weeks later. As Drake says “mixing vodka and emotions” tends to lead you to being unnecessary, aggressive and reactionary with whoever hurt you. This could be good or bad depending on the delivery. I have been there way too many times where I decided to go out when my subconscious is emotional as hell. I get a little bit of liquor in my system and I start calling all the wrong people and getting caught up in late night conversations that should’ve been handled days ago.
There were three songs in particular that I instantly felt that Drake was singing about my love life: “U with me?," “Feel No Ways,” and the crowds’ favorite Drake ballad, “Redemption." “U with me?” explains his uncertainty with the females around him. I can completely relate to this. Many times I find myself wondering: where do I stand with “so and so," why are we playing these mind games? Is you with me or what? We can all admit he has been in the situation where one likes the other, but neither know whether or not the other likes them back or understands the standing of their relationship. “Feel No Ways” basically describes my relationship with my ex currently. When you finally decide to get out of a long term relationship because it was too toxic for the both of you but one of you still wants to be together. The other person tends to try to make you feel a way on purpose for making a decision that is best for both parties. “Redemption” is the one song on the album that I feel makes everyone want to call their ex-fling or partner and say “I miss you." This song expresses the reality of things being completely over with someone but the person still has a place in your heart. It is hard to find the words to express to the person that you still care, you still think of them, and in that same instant, you are seeking closure.
I would recommend Drake to any of you twenty somethings that are currently in your feelings and need someone who understands your emotions. Warning: It will put you deeper in your feelings but you will get over it and thank Drake later, as I am now.
Thank You, Drake for gracing us with yet another “soundtrack to my life” album. Thank You. #VIEWS
