How To Succeed In College Without Really Trying

Before my first week of college, everyone told me it was going to be the hardest thing of my life. My high school teachers told me I would not have time for anything. My grandparents said that it did not matter that I was stuck in a small dorm because I would hardly be there.

I got news for you, I have a lot of free time. I spend most of my free time studying or hanging out with some of my closest friends. I have time to do everything I want and more. I have finished a season of a TV show on Netflix within my first two weeks of classes. I personally prioritize my school life over anything else, I am paying for it and I want to put it to good use.

I don't think college is hard, I think managing your time is. If you do not prioritize, how can you expect to get anything done? Do not wait till last minute to do all of your assignments, you stress yourself out that way. If you have a 10-page report due next week start on it as soon as you can, that way if your internet goes out you already have it done. Study your notes after class so that way everything the professor said in class will be refreshed in your brain.

Take time to yourself by doing something you enjoy. Go out and see a movie or take a walk around campus. Surround yourself with people who have the same passion and drive as you, that way you will only be pushed to do better. If someone is toxic and all they do is to drag you down, you will be at the bottom with them as well.

Listen to your body and take care of your mental health as well. If you need to not go to class that day because you are mentally struggling, take a mental health day. Try not to eat a bunch of fast food all day every day, mix some vegetables or fruit in there if possible.

Have fun, it is college and you are bound to make some mistakes. It is okay to make mistakes as long as you learn from them. If everytime you go to a party you always get too drunk and miss all your classes, maybe you should wait till the weekend to party. After all, you did come here to learn and education comes at a price, use your brain and time wisely.

It is okay to say no, you will not have the time to go to every party and join every organization on campus. You need to choose which is best for you. Prioritize your time and do what will make you a better person. Keep your head up and make these 4 years the best years of your life.

This is the start of your future and you need to do what makes you happy.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
