A first day of work creates a strange combination of excitement and nerves for even the most confident of people. What will the office be like? Are my new co-workers cool?
Regardless of what job you land, here’s how to make sure you come prepared for a great first impression:
1. Prepare the night before.
Usually for me, a big occasion (like a first day of work) calls for freshly manicured nails and a brand new outfit that makes me feel like a rockstar. Whatever your routine is to get a boost of confidence, assure that everything is put together the night before so you’re not scrambling in the morning.
2. Do your homework.
Make sure you go into your first day knowing what your responsibilities are. Also assure that understand what the company as a whole is working towards and how you can help it meet those goals.
3. Dress for success.
Wear something that tells your boss that you’re there to work hard and do the best you can. Make sure you know the dress code of your work environment, and if you’re unsure, it’s always better to dress up than show up underdressed.
4. Eat a good breakfast.
It’s the most important meal of the day after all! A good breakfast gives you the energy boost to tackle any first day shenanigans that may come up. And word to the wise: at an office job, bring coffee just in case.
5. Confidence is key.
Even if you’re shaking in your boots as you walk through those office doors the first time, act confident. You were hired because you have a skill set their office needs. Don’t be cocky, but a firm handshake and a strong introduction go a long way.
