Well folks, it's that magical time of the year again. Yes, you guessed it; it's the beginning of finals. That incredible point in the semester where your stress and procrastination levels skyrocket from barely manageable to feelings of death and despair. And if you're lucky enough to still not quite be at the beginning of your finals, have no fear, the following gifs from 'New Girl' will easily remind you of the breakdown of how we all go through this time of year.
So you've got some time before the first of your finals. The responsible and smart thing to do would be to start studying and getting your materials together so you're not scrambling for them so last minute. But who wants to be that on top of things?
You spend the whole week hanging out with friends, partying, basically celebrating the fact that you've made it through the academic year.
Then suddenly it's the Sunday before your first final and you realize that maybe you should start studying. Maybe.
You think about it, and reason that, hey, you've got most of the day to brush off responsibilities still, you have time to study tonight yet.
It's getting later in the day and you start debating about how you should start studying,
You then get a text from your more responsible friend asking how studying is going and how productive you've been today.
You know it's getting later and you really need to start so you get serious with yourself.
You open up your computer and pull up your study guide. Yeah, you got this.
After about a solid five minutes of staring blankly at the screen, you realize this isn't working out.
All this stress from trying to get focused has you thinking,
You know you probably won't get anywhere without someone making sure you stay on track so you shoot your responsible friend a text asking if they want to come study with you.
They agree to come over and you think this'll really help!
Your friend arrives and the two of you sit down and get to work. Surrounded by all your study materials, you're feeling good. 20 minutes later however...
You turn to your friend to ask for help on a question.
Unfortunately for you however, your friend isn't taking the same exam as you, so they aren't much help.
Well crap. There goes your motivation again. Guess it's time to acknowledge the obvious.
Your friend agrees to get food with you, meaning that you've found another means of procrastination!
Once the two of you have finished eating, your friend decides to go since they're done with their studying. They ask you if you're sure you'll be good working alone, to which you falsely reassure them of your capabilities.
They leave, and you find yourself alone again with your notes and your inner debate about procrastination.
You sit down, try working on your notes again but to no avail.
You check to see what time it is and discover it's getting incredibly late. How??
You feel like breaking down but know that you need to get tough with yourself.
It's not working, and you begin to panic.
At this point all you can do is cry it out
Once you've finally calmed down a little, you try one last time to reason with yourself. Do a little more studying, then get some sleep so you're not a total wreck when you go to take your exam in the morning.
Time to take one last crack at this study guide and these notes.
You've successfully managed to get through a little more work, and crawl into bed feeling defeated and drained.
The morning of your exam arrives, and you realize that you probably shouldn't have put off studying so much, but it is what it is. You head off to your exam thinking two things:
and
Eventually you emerge from your exam. You made it, you got that exam out of the way.
Maybe the road to this point wasn't the greatest, but you did it. You're free!
Best of luck to everyone, we can make it through this!
