How To Look Cool And Chic For Back to School

The time is approaching for us college students to start packing our bags, dusting off our school supplies and heading back to our home away from home. The feel of summer still weighs heavily on our minds as we have to adjust ourselves back to our scheduled lifestyle jam-packed with study sessions and office hours. We begin the first weeks back waking up an hour early before our first class turning on morning jazz while we get ready for the day. After a few weeks, the lazy college slum comes out and we begin waking up 15 minutes before class, throwing a t-shirt on, splashing water on our face, and leaving our hair in a mess which resorts us to using the "my hair is messy so I opt out for a baseball hat" look. I want to make it a goal this semester to spend a good 30 minutes in the morning preparing for my day and looking good for all the work and studying I have to do. Being an Instagram obsess, I have found many trends that I think are great for college, affordable and easy to throw on!

Flared Jeans with a twist.

Jill Lansky has started a cult following on Instagram. Her style and beauty blog The August Diaries is anything but undesirable. She documents her many outfit styles which can easily be described as sophisticated and chic. This simple outfit below is edgy yet refined, modern yet traditional. All you need is a white t-shirt (which I’m sure we all have), flared cropped jeans which are so flattering on anyone, and then a blazer that you can get anywhere from Target to a cute boutique. This outfit is so easy to wear and looks great!

Stripes are ALWAYS in.

This is an outfit I wore in Seattle. I in fact woke up late to my parents pounding on my hotel door, telling my sister and I to hurry so we wouldn’t miss our tours for the day. I was able to throw this outfit together in under 5 minutes. I’m wearing a striped blouse paired with high raised black shorts and of course my Adidas shoes. It is not only an easy combo but you feel chic and stylish whether you are going to class or lunch with friends. I always advise before you go to bed to lay out your clothes for the next day. You can save an extra 4 minutes in the morning rummaging through your closet if you do this.

Denim Skirts Forever!

Denim skirts are southern chic and you can pair it with practically anything. Off the shoulder shirts tucked in or tucked out add romanticism to your outfit that even the boys will be impressed on how you dress. You can even dress this outfit down with a plain t-shirt and keds. Have fun with exploring new styles!

Off the shoulder blouses add romanticism and chicness to your style.

You can pair your denim skirt with a graphic tee for a more casual look.

70's Shades.

If you decide one day to go au natural, glasses are the best thing to hid your under-eye bags. I’ve lately been obsessed with these glasses that I bought from Francesca’s. They have round lens which is reminiscent of the 70’s, but they add hip and coolness to every outfit you decide to wear.

Comfy chic pants.

Loosey goosey pants paired with nude sandals, you just can’t go wrong here. I honestly owe 10 different pairs of pants like these. They are so comfortable and easy to wear.

A summer trend that I have being seeing everywhere are light trench coats. You can wear it on top of casual outfits with jeans or dress it up like below with a white dress and heels. Plus you will feel like you are in Paris, which makes it all worth the buy!

Trench Coats are the new IT.

Easy breezy and sophisticated. At this point you're ready to have tea with Kate Middleton.

Trench coats with converse or keds is the up to date Parisian look that anyone can copy.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
