It's hard to be patient in a world of instant gratification. We heat up food in the microwave instead of the oven because it's quicker. We can't wait in lines at Walmart so we go to the self-checkout lane and get angry when the machine breaks. We check social media and get upset when someone doesn't like our post within five minutes. We text our friends and get impatient when they don't reply soon enough. We honk at the long line of traffic in front of us because we need to get to work on time.
When you think about it, impatience is selfishness.
The Bible is full of verses on how to be patient, but the one I think everyone can understand is “Love is Patient”.And since God is love, God is also patient. Therefore, we should be patient, too.
In some sense, there is an urgency to live out our lives and accomplish our goals as soon as possible. But there is also another part of life that most people don’t think about: God’s will.God has planned our days on earth before any of them ever came to be. When we are impatient, we are basically rushing a plan that God has set in stone.
When life doesn’t make sense, it’s because we can’t see into the future.Everything that happens and everything that doesn’t happen has a purpose. As humans, we can’t always understand that. But God is an all-knowing God who knows what He’s doing. One day, you’ll be glad you remained patient during the trial. You’ll realize that God had a beautiful plan all along.
